Question About History Files

Recently, I moved my league file in the saved games folder to the recycle bin. I replaced it by moving a back-up league file to the saved game folder. When I reloaded my league news was mostly gone and the history section of each player on the BNN page was empty.

All player pics, player stats, team stats and such are are intact. What happened here?

How do I replace all of this? Recycle bin has been emptied.

Yes, it's not that easy to do what you did, Honorable Pawn. It is my guess that there are thousands of file links being refreshed every time you advance the game and save it. As TG says, that's what the backup procedure is for: to restore the game in toto, not piecemeal.

Yes, it's these three folders:

\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 14\saved_games\[your league name].lg\news\txt\leagues

\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 14\saved_games\[your league name].lg\news\txt\players

\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 14\saved_games\[your league name].lg\news\txt\teams

Could be thousands of text files in each one of them, especially players.

I think I understand how the back-ups work now. The back-up folder only contains files that were created/modified since the last back-up. It is the saved .lg folder in the OOTP sub-folder structure where the core history files are stored. The back-up .lg folder only contains recent events.

What this means is that if you delete the .lg folder in the saved games folder (like I did) and try to replace with the back-up folder you will lose history events on the BNN page, league news and other history files. Stats are not lost but it sucks to lose who was drafted when, trades, etc.

Since I back-up every single game day I would be able to simply copy paste the history files into the .lg folder. But...I keep rolling back-ups. I only have the most recent three days.

Luckliy, I was able to recover almost all of the files with Recuva.

Now I know not to delete the .lg folder and think I can simply plop the back-up .lg in its place. What needs to be done is to restore from in-game like Bru and ThGame suggested or to simply plop the back-up .lg on top of the saved .lg folder. Either works.

Anyways...news is good...I lost very very little. It looks like all of the players have their history with the exception of some weaker players deep on a reserve roster. But the important players (major leaguers) and the important news articles were saved.

Long story short...listen to Bru and restore in-game. Lastly, have a program like recuva already installed.

Alternative is to not use the in game backup. I backup my leagues with Zip/compression software. That way it's a full backup, and to restore from a backup is simply a matter of deleting the .lg folder and unzipping.

Yes, this is what I will start doing.

I'm actually quite pleased that little was lost. I am going through each player in the league one at a time and manually updating the history on the few that have missing .txt files. Recuva really saved my league.

Well, good news. Curious, though. I admire your tenacity, going through each player one at a time, but when you find a missing txt file (I assume you know because their history's empty?) how do you know what to edit back into it?

Beacuse I was able to recover all of the Team transactions files. I go to the all transactions menu in-game for each team and just go down the list clicking on each player.

I just went down the inaugural draft one at a time and made sure that all trades (only about 5 or so) were added. Only 2 trades were missing from player profiles. Player of the week awards are simple because those are kept with dates along with stats.

Thing is...it's an 8 team league with only 40-man reserve rosters and only 19 games into the season. So, there really isn't that much to update. Since I have chornicled almost every single day in my dynasty report I also have a pretty solid record of day-by-day performances.

Right now I just finished up the inaugural draft (4o rounds) and the 1st year player draft (7 rounds) so the only thing that is potentially missing are individual achievements such as 10 or more K's, 5 hit days, etc. I'll go through all box scores one at a time and make sure all achievements are in the history section.

The only thing that I won't bother with is players being named xth best prospect. I'll go ahead a lose those, if any.

There is an option in Backup Game to "Copy All Files" (instead of just "Start Backup" which I think does only new and altered files). Doing "Copy All Files" can take a heck of a long time but is worth it once in a while, IMO.

But I think you are on the right track to also focus on just manually backing up the entire .lg folder. My suggestion here would be to use a file compression program like WinZip to zip it down to one compressed file. It takes much less time backing up the one file than it does to copy all of those thousands of text files, one by one.

2-3 times a season i backup my league. once per season i gave the game as a quickstart. I also on occasion just zip the saved game file and keep that also instead of doing a full backup.
