Advice on how to play
Just bought OOTP 14, played 12 and 13 but never got past first season and always done really bad with whatever team I played. Tried letting AI manage almost everything and also tried managing it all myself but still rubbish. I would really like to get a good start so any clues would help for a 73 year old UK player please. I have read the online manual and watched tutorial videos but still struggle and would like to get past first season for a change. I prefer to play MLB real seasons.

Try controlling one of the best teams in MLB or one of the top teams for the given year if you're running a historical league.
If you have players with good ratings, you should be able to do well. Also, you might consider turning off the coaching, personality, and morale systems if you want to simplify things and perhaps make it easier to manage your club. |

When I was new to the game I would try to focus on just one thing at a time - like building a team with good hitting as I could do, or the best pitching - you may not make the playoffs every year, but if you have one of those, you will do pretty well. I would also second Charlie's advice to turn off coaching, personality, and morale - as well as scouting. Without scouting you can see the true values of players which helps a lot when you are starting out, and you can always turn it back on later once you get the swing of things.
Also, these are for 13 but still very helpful - recommend you watch them http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...w-players.html |
