Etsuko Tada vs. Anabel Ortiz ---![]() Etsuko Tada 105 lbs beat Anabel Ortiz 104¾ lbs by UD in round 12 of 12 Judge: Richard Hopkins 115-114 Judge: Tony Castellano 116-113 Judge: Kazuo Abe 116-112 Unofficial Ringside Scorecard: 118-112 ![]() Notes Etsuko Tada 10-0-2 (2 KO's) vs. Anabel Ortiz 10-3-0 (2 KO's) Tada entered having won 4 consecutive bouts dating back to 2010. Ortiz came in with a record of 2-2-0 in her previous four fights. Tada's 8th defense of WBA female Minimumweight Title. Ortiz's 1st defense of WBC Silver female Minimumweight Title. Bout Summary Unbeaten Japanese speedster Tada, 10-0-2, turned in a lackluster performance, but managed to retain the WBA female Minimumweight Title and add the WBC Silver female Minimumweight Title on a unanimous decision over Mexican Anabel Ortiz, 10-3-0, over 12 dull rounds. Tada had won the title against previously unbeaten defending champ Cho-Rong Son back in 2009, while Ortiz had lost a lopsided decision in her last outing when stepping up to meet the WBA & WBO female Light Flyweight Champion Yesica Yolanda Bopp. Neither landed anything more than a probing jab in the first round. Tada didn't move much, standing flat footed, landing some nice short uppercuts to take the second. In the third, Ortiz got up on her toes and made it difficult for Tada, hooks again deciding the round, with Ortiz scoring each time she found herself inside. Tada dominated the fourth and fifth rounds with her jab and some good left-right combos. But Ortiz, rallied in the sixth after landing a body blow that had Tada retreating for the remainder of the round trying to avoid Ortiz's heavy hands. Between the end of the sixth and the start of the seventh, it seems both fighters suffered some form of amnesia, how else could someone explain Ortiz's timidness for the next three rounds. Ortiz sprang back to life in the tenth when a cross visibly had Tada hurt, sensing the need for a knockout Ortiz turned human windmill, yet Tada saw the round out and took the last two as both spent, turned on auto-pilot. Tada moves to, 11-0-2 (2), whilst Ortiz suffers her second consecutive defeat, drops to, 10-4-0 (2). |

Su-Yun Hong vs Ji-Hyun Park ---![]() Su-Yun Hong 104 lbs beat Ji-Hyun Park 102 lbs by UD in round 12 of 12 Judge: Remigio Ruggeri 115-114 Judge: Leszek Jankowiak 116-113 Judge: Roger Tilleman 116-113 Unofficial Ringside Scorecard: 116-113 ![]() Notes Su-Yun Hong 7-0-0 (4 KO's) vs. Ji-Hyun Park 16-2-0 (5 KO's) Hong entered bout undefeated in professional career. Park came in on the back of ten consecutive victories in her previous fights. Hong's 1st defense of WBO female Minimumweight Title. Park's 12th defense of IFBA International Female Boxers Association Minimumweight Title. Bout Summary South Korean southpaw Hong, captured the IFBA title in addition to her own WBO title by withstanding the accurate sharpshooting of Park, and occasionally scoring heavy shots that took their toll. Hong, who had just took possession of the WBO title in her last fight by dethroning Teeraporn Pannimit, was a prefight underdog against the more experienced Park. The 27-year-old Park , making her 12th defense, had been a title holder since 2006. Hong, the younger fighter, took the initiative with her fine display of punch power that dropped Park in the first round with a good-old-fashioned one-two. Up at the count of four, Park struggled early on and Hong dominated the first three rounds, though Park threw back sporadic jabs. Park took the fourth, however Hong remained the aggressor chasing her all over the ring. Hong regained control in the fifth as the give-and-take natural of the fight entertained the crowd. The sixth swung back to Park after a hook penetrated Hong's defense and she went on the offensive, trapping Hong against the ropes and tagging her face with accurate right hands. The seventh round saw a slugfest as the brawling natural of the fight peaked before giving way to a both fighters coasting and slowly decreasing work rate. But for the duration of that seventh round, the two went toe-to-toe, taking turns pounding away on each other until the sound of the bell, which was drowned out by the applause of the crowd. Neither fighter seemed to gain their second wind, and the fight fizzled out, Park upped her punch output in round nine to stir the crowd, but Hong was not interested in going on the offense, settling on keeping her defense tight and picking her countering opportunities. Hong moves to, 8-0-0 (4), whilst Park drops to, 16-3-0 (5). Last edited by bob_bask; 08-18-2012 at 05:07 PM. |

Naoko Fujioka vs Katia Gutierrez ---![]() Naoko Fujioka 105 lbs beat Katia Gutierrez 105 lbs by TKO in round 11 of 12 Judge: Roy Ovalle 99-91 Judge: Arthur Lurie 99-92 Judge: Malcolm Bulner 98-92 Unofficial Ringside Scorecard: 98-92 ![]() Notes Naoko Fujioka 8-0-0 (5 KO's) vs. Katia Gutierrez 17-3-0 (4 KO's) Fujioka entered bout undefeated in professional career. Gutierrez came in on the back of six consecutive victories, her last defeat back in January 2011. Fujioka's 2nd defense of WBC female Minimumweight Title. Gutierrez's 5th defense of IBF female Minimumweight Title. Bout Summary Fujioka, asserted her worthiness as pre-tournament favourite with a convincing stoppage of Mexico's Gutierrez. So convincing, in fact, that many among the fans on hand at Korakuen Hall went home believing that the Japanese dual champion will chop down all future foes when she gets the chance. Guiterrez, confident in her dressing room of winning the fight, came out throwing serious punches, and gave almost as good as she got, especially with her combination punching. It was more of the same in the second, as Fujioka endured multiple blows to the face as she surged forward, eager to find a home for her left hook. Which she landed, repeatedly, yet Guiterrez remained on her feet. But for a lack of firepower and early swelling, Guiterrez may have attempted to retain the pace of the first two rounds, but unable to keep Fujioka off, she went into survival mode. Fujioka content to drive close and land to the body, allowed Guiterrez to rest by working at long range and targeting the swollen eye for the majority of the middle rounds. Round nine, saw the patient almost to a fault Fujoka dispense with biding her time, and adopt a never-step-back approach for the remainder of rounds. Her hard hooks, to the head and body had Guiterrez close to all but collapsing into a heap. Guiterrez, her eye near swollen shut by round ten, never stopped trying, and went all-out in the tenth, applying pressure that appeared effective until a right cross shook Guiterrez to the core and found herself having to rely on her defensive reflexes to see the round out. The eleventh round, Fujioka's straight punches zipped between Guiterrez's wide and wild blows with enough steam and frequency to demoralize the Mexican. A vicious toe-to-toe exchange allowed Fujioka to land punch-after-unanswered-punch on the one eyed Guiterrez. Pinned in the corner, held up only by the ropes as a hail of blows land, the referee halts the fight... for the ringside physician to examine the eye. Luckily the doctor sees sense and stops the fight. Fujioka moves to, 9-0-0 (6), whilst Guiterrez drops to, 17-4-0 (4). |

Katia Gutierrez vs Su-Yun Hong ---![]() Su-Yun Hong 104 lbs beat Katia Gutierrez 105 lbs by TKO in round 8 of 12 Judge: Takeaki Kanaya 68-66 Judge: Berit Andreasen 67-67 Judge: Barry Druxman 70-64 Unofficial Ringside Scorecard: 70-63 ![]() Notes Katia Gutierrez 7-4-0 (4 KO's) vs. Su-Yun Hong 8-0-0 (4 KO's) Gutierrez entered having lost her first group bout and her IBF title to Naoko Fujioka. Hong came in unbeaten as a professional and a dual title holder, the IFBA & WBO titles. Hong's 2nd defense of WBO female Minimumweight Title, and, her 1st defense of IFBA female Minimumweight Title. Bout Summary South Korean underdog Hong, impressively battered Gutierrez for the full 2:47 of the eighth round to regain her titles at the World Trade Center in Boca del Rio. Guiterrez, the pre-fight favourite, failed to follow the strategy of keeping her distance by utilizing her footwork which had proved so effective in the early rounds. Instead, she unwisely elected to mix it up with her South Korean opponent. Hong opened the fight displaying thumping uppercuts to the head and body. Guiterrez, retaliated by attempting to rough up and intimidate the champion. The tactic achieved little and Guiterrez came out probing with her jab in a more successful second for the challenger. The third round featured tactical warfare, feinting and slipping, punctuated mid-way through, as Hong turned it up a notch, and Guiterrez began going backwards. By the round's end Hong had began to rip into Guiterrez's body. The fourth and fifth rounds saw a lot of negative tactics as both fighters engaged in too many holds and clinches. Making many ringside unable to score either round for one particular fighter, instead declaring it 'a ten round fight'. In the next two rounds, Hong established herself as the heavier puncher. The few times she managed to catch Guiterrez, her punches seemed to have more effect then Guiterrez's did, despite the challenger landing almost twice as many. Hong, turning not to desperation tactics, but rather to determination tactics, rallied herself in the eighth round to produce once of the most aggressive displays in recent memory to earn a TKO victory. After thumping Guiterrez with every power shot she possessed, finally two hooks to the body, and the classic left hook sent the challenger down, but somehow Guiterrez managed to beat the count. Sensing blood Hong began wailing punches at Guiterrez's head, there were at least four punches too many that landed unanswered before the referee steps in. Hong moves to, 9-0-0 (5), whilst Gutierrez suffers her second consecutive defeat, drops to, 17-5-0 (4). |

Ji-Hyun Park vs. Etsuko Tada ---![]() Etsuko Tada 105 lbs beat Ji-Hyun Park 102 lbs by SD in round 12 of 12 Judge: Pinij Prayadsub 115-113 Judge: Takeshi Shimekawa 114-117 Judge: Debra Barnes 113-116 Unofficial Ringside Scorecard: 114-114 ![]() Notes Ji-Hyun Park 16-3-0 (5 KO's) vs. Etsuko Tada 11-0-2 (2 KO's) Park entered having lost her first group bout and her IFBA title to Su-Yun Hong. Tada came in unbeaten as a professional and a dual title holder, the WBA & WBC Silver titles. Tada's 9th defense of WBA female Minimumweight Title, and, her 1st defense of the WBC Silver female Minimumweight Title. Bout Summary Spurred on by a wildly enthusiastic crowd invigorated by the action, Park, for the best part, rose magnificently to the occasion. Feeling the need to vindicate herself for her previous defeat, the home fighter's confidence quickly soaring after coming out looking sharp in the opening rounds and establishing a constant attack using her straight right hand. The visiting champion appeared lethargic, until a low blow by Park compelled Tada into a more aggressive mode. Forced onto the back foot, Park tried to turn counter puncher, yet lacked the instincts to make it effective. Tada declared all-out-war in the fifth and sixth, seemingly tagging Park at will, retaliation came in the form of some ill-timed straight counters, and at the end of round six, an after the bell punch that also missed it's target. Park overcame a torrid seventh to respond with some great smothering tactics that allowed a volley of hooks and uppercuts to drive Tada into the ropes, where the deluge continued until the bell sounded. A state of peace was seemingly declared for the majority of the final rounds, with both fighters going through the motions. Tada moves to, 12-0-2 (2), whilst Park suffers her second consecutive defeat, drops to, 16-4-0 (5). |

Anabel Ortiz vs Naoko Fujioka ---![]() Naoko Fujioka 105 lbs beat Anabel Ortiz 104¾ lbs by UD in round 12 of 12 Judge: Marcus McDonnell 112-116 Judge: Jesus Manuel Cova 113-114 Judge: Michael Lee 113-115 Unofficial Ringside Scorecard: 114-114 ![]() Notes Anabel Ortiz 10-4-0 (2 KO's) vs. Naoko Fujioka 9-0-0 (6 KO's) Ortiz came in with a negative record of 2-3-0 in her previous five fights. Fujioka came in unbeaten as a professional and a dual title holder, the WBC & IBF titles. Fujioka's 3rd defense of WBC female Minimumweight Title, and, her 1st defense of the IBF female Minimumweight Title. Bout Summary In a close, bloody, and at times dirty fight, the WBC & IBF champion Fujioka prevailed over the challenger Ortiz, who fighting before a wildly supportive crowd at the Salón Marbet in Nezahualcóyotl, dominated the first round. Fujioka used her jab and overhand right to establish herself in the second round, before opening fire in the third, throwing several strong combinations that stunned the challenger. The action heated up in the fourth, as Fujioka shook Ortiz with a counter right hand and followed up by working the body. Fujioka caught the challenger with crisp combinations and had Ortiz reeling to the ropes. Ortiz covered up and barely made it through the round. The fifth and sixth rounds were fairly evenly contested, but the champion seemed to be capturing control by virtue of Ortiz's weary appearance. Ortiz knocked Fujioka to the canvas with a monstrous uppercut to the jaw almost immediately at the start of round seven. Able to beat the count, Fujioka appeared vulnerable, Ortiz pursued the knockout. Despite landing several heavy punches, Ortiz couldn't pick her shots and Fujioka finished the round on her feet. As the bout progressed, Ortiz began to run out of steam, Fujioka recovered, launched a sustained attack, that lasted from mid-way through round eight to a low blow from Ortiz in round ten that disrupted her rhythm. Ortiz landed several jabs followed up by straight right hands late in round ten and appeared capable of rallying back to make things interesting, but it was not to be. Fujioka moves to, 10-0-2 (6), whilst Ortiz suffers her second consecutive defeat, drops to, 10-5-0 (2). |

Etsuko Tada vs Naoko Fujioka ---![]() Naoko Fujioka 105 lbs beat Etsuko Tada 105 lbs by TKO in round 8 of 12 Judge: Harold Barnes 66-65 Judge: Edgardo Codutti 66-65 Judge: Cyril Cairns 66-65 Unofficial Ringside Scorecard: 66-65 ![]() Notes Etsuko Tada 12-0-2 (2 KO's) vs. Naoko Fujioka 10-0-0 (6 KO's) Tada came in unbeaten as a professional and a dual title holder, the WBA & WBC Silver titles. Fujioka also came in unbeaten as a professional and a dual title holder, the WBC & IBF titles. Tada's 10th defense of WBA female Minimumweight Title, and, her 2nd defense of the WBC Silver female Minimumweight Title. Fujioka's 4th defense of WBC female Minimumweight Title, and, her 2nd defense of the IBF female Minimumweight Title. Bout Summary Tada, ready and relentless, outworked and out-powered Fujioka on her way to lose her WBA & WBC Silver titles before a crazed crowd at Yomiuri Bunka Hall. After a sharp round one, Tada landed a short hook that dropped Fujioka onto her backside at the bell. Fujioka was up at the count of one and went back to her corner to regroup. In round two, Fujioka rallied and launched her own onslaught, when three blazing punches sent Tada to the floor. Back on her feet at the count of four, she fought defensively the rest of the round. Fujioka continued her asasult in the third, as Tada remained in a defensive mode. In the fourth, a left from Tada sent Fujioka to the ropes, and while Fujioka continued to give a good account of herself, Tada's jarring bodyshots began to take their toll. Building a health lead, Tada started round eight with a strong uppercut and a crashing overhand right that connected to Fujioka's jaw. Then Fujioka connects with a blatant head butt, immediately a crevice was visible over Tada's left eye. The referee stopped the bout and cautioned Fuijoka before allowing the action to continue. As the round progressed, blood flowed down Tada's face and she pawed at the wound to keep her vision. Finally the referee called a halt and summoned the ringside physician to inspect the wound. The physician recommended halting the bout at 1:16, touching off a brief moment of choas as Tada partisans pelted the ring with beer cups, and at least one fan arrested for heaving a chair. Fujioka moves to, 11-0-0 (7), whilst Tada suffers her first professional defeat, drops to, 12-1-2 (2). Last edited by bob_bask; 08-29-2012 at 01:50 PM. |

Su-Yun Hong vs Anabel Ortiz ---![]() Anabel Ortiz 104¾ lbs beat Su-Yun Hong 105 lbs by KO in round 11 of 12 Judge: Blake Allen 97-92 Judge: Rogelio Perez 96-93 Judge: Richard DeCarufel 96-93 Unofficial Ringside Scorecard: 98-92 ![]() Notes Su-Yun Hong 9-0-0 (5 KO's) vs. Anabel Ortiz 10-5-0 (2 KO's) Hong came in unbeaten as a professional and a dual title holder, the IFBA & WBO titles. Ortiz came in with a negative record of 0-2 in her last two bouts of the tournament. Hong's 3rd defense of WBO female Minimumweight Title, and, her 2nd defense of IFBA female Minimumweight Title. Bout Summary Unbeaten southpaw Su-Yun Hong, South Korea's IFBA & WBO minimumweight champion, suffered her first professional defeat, as Mexico's Anabel Ortiz launched a furious attack that had Hong retreating into the ropes before a wicked right uppercut to the chin. Hong sank to the canvas and laid there, motionless, while the referee tolled the fatal 10. Both boxers' were aggressive in the first round, tossing solid rights and lefts at one another. The second round saw Hong and Ortiz exchange some solid punches, but Ortiz's body shots got home to the midsection of Hong more effectively. It appeared that Hong was nervous. Hong floored her foe with a right-left-right combination in the action packed third round. Yet Ortiz found her feet, and managed to run and avoid further punishment for the remaining thirteen seconds of the round. Until she heard the bell. It looked like only a matter of time when the bell sounded to begin round six, but Ortiz slowly regained her confidence over the next three rounds. The Mexican stood her ground as Hong continued to land the right to the head and body. Hong, boxing to defend her lead took a dull round nine, Ortiz won the tenth round on every scorecard by repeatedly timing the champion's attack and countering with her lead right over Hong's guard. The challenger struck in the eleventh when the swollen faced champion walked face-first into a compact left hook. With the onset of fatigue, Hong tried to disengage by effectively trapping herself in the corner. Ortiz followed and dutifully disposed of the champion. Ortiz moves to, 11-5-0 (2), whilst Hong suffers her first professional defeat, drops to, 9-1-0 (5). |

Ji-Hyun Park vs. Katia Gutierrez ---![]() Ji-Hyun Park 102 lbs beat Katia Gutierrez 105 lbs by UD in round 12 of 12 Judge: Jae-Bong Kim 114-113 Judge: Paul Thomas 114-113 Judge: Alex Levin 115-113 Unofficial Ringside Scorecard: 115-113 ![]() Notes Ji-Hyun Park 16-4-0 (5 KO's) vs. Katia Gutierrez 17-5-0 (4 KO's) Park came in with a negative record of 0-2 in her last two bouts of the tournament. Gutierrez also came in with a negative record of 0-2 in her last two bouts of the tournament. Bout Summary Park's first victory in the Minimumweight Super Six against Mexican Gutierrez wasn't exactly pretty, but it was exciting and convincing. Dirty tactics abounded, with the fiery Park being the primary culprit, but it was Park's sharp punching and skilful boxing that secured her a comfortable unanimous decision at the Sports Center, Okcheon Gun. The first saw a freewheeling, wild swinging affair that had a reckless edge to it all. Neither boxer seemed to employ an intelligent strategy, instead getting caught up in a slugging match. A left hook sent Guiterrez down heavily late in round two. She managed to beat the count, and with no time left in the round, made it back on unsteady legs to her corner. Guiterrez arguably won the third as she landed her favourite right cross, Park, retaliated with a few jabs and one-two combinations. The battle began to turn in the fourth when Guiterrez changed her strategy, abandoning her original plan to out-slug Park, and turned towards a more disciplined approach. Park sole action of note was to garner a warning for a low punch. What followed was a back-and-forth sharing of rounds. That changed in the tenth when Park dominated with effective combos and right hooks, though Guiterrez tried to apply pressure, the snap seemed to have gone from her punches. Guiterrez's left eye had began to close in the sixth, and by the eleventh, the eye was almost shut, allowing Park to land an increasing number of right hands, the ringside physician was called to examine the eye and surprised many fight insiders when he signalled for the fight to continue. The game Guiterrez put forth a last surge in the twelfth round with her limited vision, but it was not enough to overcome the point deficit. Park moves to, 17-4-0 (5), whilst Ortiz suffers her third consecutive defeat, exiting the tournament with, 17-6-0 (4). |
