Version 0.9.44 Game Update Now Available

Our newest game update, Version 0.9.44, is now available, including a data update.

You can download the new version at:

(PC) FHM - Update 0.9.44
(Mac) FHM - Update 0.9.44
(alternate Mac link) FHM - Update 0.9.44

PC Installation instructions: After you download the file just install it over your existing game (you don't need to uninstall the old version first.) Make sure to select the correct path to your game if needed.
Mac Installation instructions: After you download the .dmg file, open it, move the fhm.app file to your applications folder and copy over the old version.

After installation, the game should display "Version 0.9, BETA Build 44" at the bottom of the statup screen; if it shows a different build number, you'll need to re-download and reinstall (and before doing so, make sure the update file you downloaded has been deleted and your browser cache cleared.)

Note that if you decide to uninstall and reinstall, you should first release one of your licenses via Preferences-License on the start screen.

Saves from earlier versions are NOT compatible with this version.

Changes/Fixes/Additions:

*** Comments ***

The major addition this time is statistics for players in non-playable leagues, so players no longer have a blank history until they move into a playable league. The stats generation still needs some work (scoring in particular is much too high), but it's made a lot of progress since the first version and should be producing realistic results soon. Note that this generates player stats only, there won't be game results or active standings in nonplayable leagues.

Sebastian is going to take a look at the historical game over the weekend, and we'll likely release a mini-update after that with whatever fixes he implements (savegames will be compatible with it); after that, as I said earlier, we'll be taking a couple of weeks between updates to switch the game over to a 2013 start date.

Fictional league generation is ready to move out of the planning stages, we have an outline of how it will work and will begin coding it. I've also discussed league/online play with Markus a little and he had some suggestions for implementing it; it'll be similar to OOTP online play, albeit missing a few of the more elaborate features like the almanac and real-time simulation (those will come eventually, but not in this version.)

*** 0.9.44 (28 June 2013) ***

Bug fixes:
Viewing team transactions for certain teams should no longer cause a crash.
Players who have a "Top Prospect" status at game start should no longer retain that status for the entire game.
When trading for draft picks in historical mode, picks for the proper years should be displayed instead of always being for 1947-49.
Career Time on Ice stats no longer displayed in minutes, not seconds.
Clicking on name of retiring player no longer results in crash.
All attributes should now sort properly on roster overview screen.
Standings/team stats for Mestis/Suomi-Sarja relegation series should now reset properly at end of season.
Sorting should now work properly for team staff instead of only affecting available staff.
Player, position, and age columns in draft log should now sort properly.
Goalies should no longer receiver 0-ratings in some mental skills during player generation.
Goalies no longer inheriting some ratings from retired skaters.

Changes:

Players in non-playable leagues will now generate scoring, goaltending, and penalty statistics.
Rebuilt player development systems for offensive, defensive, and goaltending attributes.
Various adjustments to player development rates.
Tweaked retirement code to be a little less aggressive.
Eliminated storing of career records for players who never played in a playable league and retired before age 30 (too many insignificant players were getting stored, hurting performance.)

Database Changes:

Players with NHL debuts in 1999-2000, 2000-2001, and 2001-2002 now included in historical database.
Adjustments to non-playable transaction settings.
Expanded name lists for player name generation.
Leagues/countries with significant amounts of updated data: NHL (including compliance buyouts), AHL, NCAA, OHL, KHL, France, Finland, Sweden, UK.

As I have had numerous problems involving historical mode in previous beta versions (most notably the game not even starting up at all after 1980's season), dare I ask which seasons are playable so far?

I'm only assuming there is a certain limitation right now, since I only had these problems with seasons after 1980, no hard feelings intended.

Theoretically, it should start fine in any season up to 2001-02, and probably with somewhat limited rosters for a few years after that (the guys who debuted 2002 or later will be missing.) But I just tried several different years and got either a crash or freeze during setup on all of them - the freeze, I suspect, is related to a data problem (there was a similar issue once before), which can be fixed easily enough. The crashing on setup is the first thing I'll get Sebastian to look at tomorrow, it's very likely something related to the development and generation changes we've made in this update - I know I was able to start historical games in 0.9.40, so this is new.

There's also something strange going on in the late 60's/early 70's that we haven't been able to track down yet, where Montreal plays a second set of games that only record stats for them. There also seems to be additional instability around that time; it's probably related but I'm not certain.

can you please add the ability the play as more than 1 GM at a time? I want to play in commish mode for one and simultaneously play without that enabled for the other. Would be nice to have sooner rather than later.

I'm going to have to check with Sebastian on that one, he made some changes to the naming system a while ago and I'm not sure if the names.txt file is read into names.dat during setup or if it's included in there from the start, in which case editing the txt file won't affect anything. I'll answer in that thread when I find out.

Must be a bad run of luck, we didn't touch anything involving injuries this time.

Where's the schedule generator?

Getting tired of playing the same NHL or any other league 2012-13 season over and over and over again. At least with the generator,I could change the schedule so it wouldn't be so boring.

FYI - I think this was intended to read "After installation, the game should display "Version 0.9, BETA Build 44""

Oops. I actually did update it, but then went and re-copied some text from the last update message and wound up overwriting it.

I posted this in May in the bugs forum and was wondering an update with trading. With this new version in the OHL I still get no responses to any of my trade offers and the players are moved to other teams and the news feed it just says team trades with team no players named but when you check on the rosters players are moved. And in the NHL when I add a draft pick my trade offer is viewed as worse by the other team. I played around with it offering all my 1st for a 4th liner and it's rejected but 4th liner for 4th liner its accepted.

Just curious on any update on a fix?

It has been noted by several people on the beta forum that the California Golden Seals are missing from early 1970 historical leagues, only 15 teams available instead of the 16 there should be. That could be a possible source.

You're probably right - Sebastian fixed the Oakland/California/Cleveland problem yesterday, and the Montreal one was no longer happening when he went to fix it.

We're going to hold the update one more day - Sebastian got a little more ambitious than just doing historical bugfixes, so there'll be a couple of surprises as well.

Can you fix the Sm-liiga relegation, cause everytime the winner of NHL plays in the Sm-liiga relegation games and goes to SM-liiga.

What's wrong with that?
