Can't change lineup in Options

Before I play a game, I keep trying to change the lineup but I get a popup that says "You are not allowed to control this team"- what can I do? I've tried everything I can think of.

You have to be actually hired by the team as the GM OR, if you have commissioner powers (manager menu), you can Act As the GM of the team in question. You cannot alter the lineup of a team controlled by the AI.
