The Contender

I am going to put a number of british boxers to see how they would do against the 50 top ATG in their weight class.

The first fighter I am going to use is Prince Naseem Hamed at FW. Why Naz? Because for a time he was the most exciting fighter to watch on Per Per View. It is sad that after the Barrera fight he more or less packed the game in.

I would have loved to see him continue, so here goes. Naz is rated #16 ATG at FW.

#16 N.Hamed vs #50 Scott Harrison
The Prince proved too good for current FW Scott Harrsion always in control yet despite showing off his awesome punching power unable to KO his fellow brit. But this is the first win for Hamed. Hamed UD10

#16 N.Hamed vs #49 Paul Jorgenson.
Hamed toyed with Jorgenson for 10 Rounds while Jorgenson battled to survive. After terrific punishment throughout Hamed landed an overhand right flush in the final 10th round to put Jurgenson on his backside. Jurgenson rose at four and survived but it was an easy win. Hamed UD10.

#16 N.Hamed vs #48 David Kotey
The Prince struggled against former WBC Featherweight Champion Ghanian David Kotey. Hamed still managed to hurt Kotey in the 4th and 6th rounds with damaging hooks but was behind on the cards as Kotey succesfully smothered and frustrated Hamed until a savage reign of combinations opened a nasty cut above Kotey's eye in the 9th to bring the referee to halt the fight. Hamed TK0 9 but he was lucky.

#16 N.Hamed vs #47 Victor Leon
The Prince was never in trouble as he knocked his openent down four times on his way to an easy win over 10 rounds. Hamed UD10.

#16 N.Hamed vs #46 Barry McGuigan
Naz's first big test and a bit of a grudge match as McGuigan never really rated Naz that highly, The Clones Cyclone would be about to put his money where is mouth is. Naz for his part would have hyped such a fight up if had happened IRL. Big money would have been on the fight, could the slugging unorthodox Prince take out the all action Irish hero McGuigan?

A good fight with McGuigan taking his licks and Naz taking the best McGuigan had to offer but just when McGuigan face swollen threatened to up the pace and take control of the fight, Naz scores a flash knockout. The proud Irish Champion succoming to suprise 4 punch Salvo just when it seemed his pressuring style was worrying Naz. The brave McGuigan was ahead on the cards.Naz by KO6

#16 N.Hamed vs Davey Moore #45
A good fight againts the early 1960's champion Davey Moore. Hamed always had a measure of control but Moore kept it interesting but in a effort to go to war in an exciting fight, Naz's power counts when Naz KO's the brave Moore in the 9th Round.

#16 N.Hamed vs Ruben Olivares #44
Another fight against one of the best bantamweights of the late 60's and a 1970's FW Champion. But Hamed is one of the best fighters of the 90's though his legacy has been tarnished after the Barerra fight. But Naz is superb destroying Olivares from the opening round and sealing the destruction in the 4th when after knocking Olivares down for the only time in the bout the ref determined Olivares could take no more. Easily Naz's best performance to date.

So Far Naz has taken out Kotey, McGuigan, Moore and Olivares all decent World Champions, his power is awesome certainly against Olivares, Moore and McGuigan.

#16 N.Hamed vs #43 Andre Routis
A frustrating night for Hamed, despite taking some hard shots from the "prince" and having a point deducted, Routis frustrated the agressive Hamed, so desperate is Hamed to win that he started to foul later in the fight as he failed to connect most of the night. Routis wins a surprised UD10. A real shocker as this time Naz's power fails to bail him out.

#16 N.Hamed vs #42 Petey Sarron
Another night of frustration as Hamed for the second time can't handle a man boxing defensively on the outside. Though never in trouble himself Naz can't lay a glove on the speedy excellent boxer Sarron. Sarron wins by UD10

#16 N.Hamed vs #41 Petey Scalzo
A return to form for Naz with knockdowns of Scalzo in the 8th and 10th round, Naz is a clear winner. UD10

#16 N.Hamed vs #40 Eddie Shea
A close one for Naz, Shea boxed beautifully staying away from Naz's power but the Prince has done enough throughout the fight to deserve the win, just. He wins a MD10.

so with Hamed about to go into the boxers ranked 30-39 his record stands at 9-2. The fighters with most joy are those that can box, it seems get into a war with the Prince and he'll likley come out on top.

Benn was alongside Naz and Eubank my favourite boxer of the 90's. I am sure his KO power will aquit him well in the Supermiddles. So I have a list of buchanan next, Benn, I'll do Lennox after him and see from there

cheers

from the fighters database I've sorted them according to ratings. In the top 50 there are no boxers rated under 8.

Willie Pep is #1, Sandy Saddler #2, Jem Driscoll #3, Salvador Sanchez #5 etc

#16 N.Hamed vs #39 Gene Smith
Now at 9-2 Naz needs to firm up his record, Smith is a slugger so this should finish early. The prince was never in danger in this one taking his opponent apart at will by the 6th, Smith eye puffed up Naz knocked Smith down in the 7th from a fierce uppercut then Hamed's explosive right hand sent Smith to the canvass twice more in the 8th. The referee took on mercy on Smith and called a halt.
Naz TKO8.

#16 N.Hamed vs #38 Jimmy Walsh
Another one of the old school from the 30's. Naz bled from the nose after a shaky start and took time to find his range. By the 4th his hard shots had found their mark by the 10th round Walsh's brave attempt to win was over and Naz took pleasure as he decked Walsh twice the second time from a gut wrenching uppercut to the body that left Walsh breathless on both knees. Walsh survived the fight but not the result. Naz UD10

Naz now goes to 11-2, next up is an all British clash with "The Welsh Wizard" Winstone.

#16 N.Hamed vs #37 Howard Winstone
A great fight close all the way with a classic 8th round which saw Naz fail to KO Winstone when he had the Welshman in trouble, not only did he fail to take Winstone out but Winstone unscrambled his brains and landed great shots of his own. Winstone the boxer was more accurate all fight and once again like Naz's other difficult opponents, boxed outside in defensive mode behind jabs, hooks and crosses. Naz responded with flashy though hard combinations in the main and looked good he had also taken some of Winstone's best punches, at the end I had I had it for Naz, so did one judge but not the other two. MDRAW.

#16 N.Hamed vs #36 Chalky Wright
Naz was never in trouble in fact this was his easiest fight, instead of knocking out his opponent early Naz toyed with him instead until the 9th when he decked Wright twice. Naz saved his best work for the 10th when he was all over Wright as he knocked him down 3 more times each knockdown accompanied by an Ali shuffle imitation as Naz taunted his opponent. No KO but once again Naz's power was destructive.

Naz Vs Park Yong-Kyun

Aggressive, durable and crowd pleasing Park Yong-Kyun enters the ring as a WBA Featherweight Champion from the early 90's. Kyun hails from Korea with a real life record of 28-3. He faces our chosen boxer Prince Naseem Hamed who has a simulated record of 12-2-1

The bout started like a chess match for the first 4 rounds until Naz asserted his dominance in the 8th when he caught Park with great punches amongst them his trademark uppercut doing serious damage to the former WBA champion.

The 9th was the best of the fight as Park rallied and both boxers sought a stoppage. Naz recovered from Park's brief rally and dispatched Park on his backside twice in the 10th. Naz closed out the next two rounds to take a majority decision.
