Question about injuries in online leagues

Hi all,

I'm in an online league that uses 2-week sims, and my second-best SP went on the 15-day DL before the most recent sim for a 2- to 3-week bone spur in his elbow (ouch). Now that sim is over, and his time on the DL has expired, but the team doctor says he'll be out another 3 days while he finishes recovering. The pitcher is 29 years old, and his injury history is "fragile."

I desperately need this guy back in my starting rotation, and I can live without a rehab assignment, which as I understand it are better suited to longer injuries anyway. (Is that true even for starting pitchers?) But I'm wondering: in OOTP, is the guy's risk of re-injury greater if I bring him off the DL when he's permitted to return but still has a 3-day injury diagnosis? Or can I safely bring him off the DL and stick him back at the tail end of my 5-man rotation (sending his replacement back down)? If he's not ready at his turn, will the guy in my bullpen labeled "Emergency SP" automatically take his place?

Alternatively, is the safest course to leave the injured SP on the DL until he's fully healed -- which means waiting another two weeks while a subpar replacement (with an 11.x ERA) fills in? Or maybe the safest course is a rehab assignment to AAA?

Thanks in advance. I did peek at the OOTP manual, but I'm not entirely sure how OOTP handles this situation.

Only playing will make his chance of injury higher.....I'm pretty sure there is nothing magical about the DL as far as healing players.....it's just a place to put them so they are not on your roster.....putting him at the tail-end of your rotation where he won't start until the Day-to-Day has expired is fine....as long as he doesn't have a set-back.....but there's no way to know that.....you gotta just roll the dice and hope for the best.....

+1 on this. I have done this numerous times.

I have another question about this. What if a SP comes off a 4-month injury in October, after the season is over? I'm not able to give him a rehab assignment because my minor-league season is over too. I guess I just put the recovered pitcher back on the active roster?

Yeah, it may not prompt you to move him back to the active roster, so if he was on the 60-day DL make sure to add him back especially if your league uses the Rule 5 draft

Thanks. He really didn't want to be demoted, and I didn't have an option for a rehab assignment, so I just put him on my active roster. I guess I'll have to hope he works out the rust in spring training.

That is what ST is for, to work off the rust.
