Neat Little Find

So I had no idea you could import the team strategies of former managers. Just came across that and it's a really cool feature. Only decision is which managers strategies do I want to use. LOL

How do you import mgr strategies? i know i can create a game from say 1959 and export Al Lopez strategy and import it into my current game but how do i do that without having to create a new league?

Re: Neat Little Find

I'll wager a guess and say in the Program Files/Out of the park baseball/ OOTP baseball 14/ default data folder there is a "strategy profiles" hiding in there that you could prolly tinker with.

Go to the Team Strategy page. Select IMPORT/EXPORT. Select "Import strategy from file". Navigate to the folder below.

...\Users\Username\MyDocuments\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 14\strategy_profiles

Select the .str file for the manager that you want. There are text files in the folder that explain the various profiles.

I had no idea this was possible. They really should advertise these nice little features.

I manually entered my own strategy settings for my historical replay of the Atlanta Braves form 1966 forward (now in mid-1968). It took forever but it was instructive and worth it in terms of the results. It sounds like this import process would have saved me some time. On the other hand, if you are using these managers and settings for historical replay you need to be aware of radical changes in managerial strategy. God, did Walter Alston love the IBB in 1967 and 1968. If your Dodgers pitchers aren't handing them out like candy, your settings are wrong. he did a complete turn-around in the 70s though. In 1974 he only ordered 9 IBB for the entire season! (He ordered over 100 in 1967).

Why does it import strategies to the team rather than the actual manager? Seems like the import should be to the manager's page, then the manager should set the team strategy, so that his managing style will carry over to new jobs.

I don't understand why it has to be such a cryptic process. Why can't we edit a text file or some other simple template and then import it?

The fictional managers look great. Whoever made them obviously put a lot of thought into creating a set of different style/era managers, all with personalities and coherent strategies. I definitely will be giving these a try.

Dude, no offense, but why don't you have 14 yet?

Seriously, go do odd jobs until you have forty bucks and then buy the game. It's more than worth it.

I don't have 13 installed any longer, so I can't check. Sorry.

This really is a great feature, even if it only does affect team strategies. Each time I set up a new league and take over a team (with coaching off), I am always feeling guilty about fluffing over the team strategies. Pretty much, I establish one set of strategies, guessing as to slider positions, and apply them to all situations. If someone has done work on this so that I don't have to think any further than adopting someone's historical or fictional persona, I am quite happy with it. Nice addition to the game.

True. Still, you'd have to manually set the GM strategy as these are specifically designed to be paired with corresponding GM strategies to get the best results. Been using them since ootp13 and love it.

Yes, your thread mentions the possibility of doing your own tinkering of these profiles. Thanks.

I have the $$ thats not the issue. The issue is bugs still exist that would ruin my league or bugs that just would irk me. The last patch created so many new issues. I also have problems with my league everytime I convert it to a new version. I do want to get 14 soon so I can do historical leagues and just play my main league on 13.
