8-man rotation
I would like an option for a rotation of 4 tandem pairs of starting pitchers, as described at Ultimate Astros » Luhnow says rebuilding Astros to use tandem starting pitching at all minor-league levels in 2013

There is a very simple way to implement this pitching format, play out all your games

The request is reasonable but the problem IMO is how to program the AI in a new logic for pitcher use. It wont be easy because there is no reliable data yet.

What if you just put pitch limits of like 70 for your starters? Wouldn't that accomplish the same thing essentially, other than you can't choose who the second starter is?

Maybe (if you set the other 4 to long relief), but the idea is really that within each pair they take turns being the first player into the game.

I heavily depend on starters and setups or closers for my staff. I like pitchers going all 9 innings if possible. I go with 6 in rotation for April usually then down to 5. When injuries happen to starter and no viable starter to take his place then I go 4 starters with a long reliever from minors as backup.

Of course it's not "necessary". It's probably not even the best decision for all or almost all major-league teams. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be included as an option, and I could certainly envision using it in the minors depending on what kind of talent I have available.

Perhaps if you set very low pitch counts for starters in the minors, and set team strategies to extremely slow hooks for relievers, you could achieve something similar to this. I can't think of a way to "piggyback" starters the way they've discussed, but you can definitely set a focus to getting innings to pitchers outside the set rotation.
