Meddling Owners

This has Jeffrey Loria and George Steinbrenner written all over it.

If you have an owner that likes to meddle and his personality is of a control freak, he'll send you an email before a game and demand a certain player play or a player to sit. Other times the owner will openly question a call you made in the papers , etc, etc. I think this can add some more realism to the game. Some teams have hands-off owners who are a pleasure to work for. Like in St. Louis and Cincinnati. Other times you have a Jeff Loria who demanded a pitcher pitch the day half of a double hitter instead of the night half.

I am 100% against this. Ozzie & Billy Martin told Loria and Steinbrenner where they could go stick it as I would do to any owner if they told me to start the rookie SP in the 1st game of a doubleheader vs the veteran. There is a reason why no one wants to play for the Marlins and many players hate the Steinbrenner's also. If Markus wants to make the Owner the GM ala Jerry Jones I would be for that.

I think this would be an excellent idea, if it went in conjunction with the immersion thread. There has always been some owner/manager infighting in baseball, it wouldnt be baseball if there was not.

Or to make the GM a la Billy Beane where he wants Hatteberg to play instead of Pena at first.

Good imagination! If we could control weather to use the meddling owner or not it would be up to everyone to use the option or not.

I think this would be a great addition for the storylines. Owner interviews, or at least emails from the owner regarding the state of the team or meddling. It could be an added personality trait of the owner. It could also play into how easy/difficult it is to hire coaches. As it stands, the owner's only functions are to set the new budget or fire me.

How about a feature that allows you to beg the owner for more cash for a key free agent? That has to happen IRL. A pop up stating "This contract offer exceeds your budget. Do you want to request more money from the owner?"

I like this idea! I can't tell you how many times I have tried to sign a great FA but don't have enough money. And then I end up making the player mad because I try to negotiate him down in salary.

And why is it we are negotiating with players? Where are the agents?
