Graphical OOTP?

Hey... I know nothing like this could be added for probably a couple versions of OOTP or so, but I was just wondering ...

What would people think if OOTP had an option to have a graphical mode, where as opposed to just reading the words, there were actually graphical players on the field, playing the game and following your commands. (I kind of think of Smallball graphics when I think of this, nothing too flashy, but enough to succesfully depict baseball). Kind of like controlling your own virtual army! Hehe .. It would probably slow down the time to play out a game, and increase the game itself... But it may be a cool feature. I believe people have discussed something like this before, but just wondering what people think about this ...

I don't want to actually control them like a normal graphical game but I would love to see even nintendo-ish graphics of the players and have them essentially play out the play by play as it is now. I know I could use my imagination and that does have some value too but I prefer to use both. Mainly I want this because of an old soccer manager I played that had it and it was just to much fun too watch.

I agree with both of you guys. I wouldn't want to have to control the players....that would take away from everything OOTP is. But something simple (even if it's 2 or 3 versions from now, it's not high up on my list of priorities) that would just give us a visual of what's happening with the PbP.

My intent wasn't to have graphical players that you could have control over... It was simply as you guys put, so you could watch the game and the players make the plays, instead of just reading the pbp. I think it would be a lot of fun, and add a lot to the game ... And the graphics wouldn't even have to be anything spectacular, just some standard, nintendo-ish graphics would do!

Championship Manager 4 will be adding a 2D graphical display to the engine as an option when it comes out this spring. I'd imagine this will be a part of OOTP down the road as well. I'm very happy with the mass of improvements to OOTP5 and can wait on this one.

It would be nice to have graphics similar to BBPro or even HH (on "blimp view") added down the road.

I agree -- even something like the mlb.com game tracker would be sweet. Something that, if possible, traced the dimensions of the home park, showed who was on base, moving "dots", etc..

i used to play only as a manager subing players in triple play 98, but after two games it got boring, it would often take so long to finish one game.

What I would love to see is something like the graphics in Puresim. Now that would be fantastic.

High Heat or even FPS Style graphics added to OOTP would make it the ultimate baseball game ever as far as I am concerned. Not that it isn't already, but that would push it through the stratosphere. Hell, even old Micro League visuals would be enough for me!

As far as graphics, you could also do "baseball scorebook" mode. I wouldn't mind seeing the score book show the 4-3-7-2-5 rundown.

I don't know about graphics, on the other hand, if there was a ridiculous amout of text and you could add more descriptions, import other's play by plays, that would add a lot to the game. I wouldn't mind being able to add text.

Yeah, I'd like to see this sim go be a lot like the classic Earl Weaver Baseball. You could actually play EWB, but I wouldn't really want that in OOTP. Just to be able to watch it would be awesome.

even a SMALL BALL style of grafix would do the game wonders. Nothing fancy, very basic. Even 16 bit would be nice.
