Making my first logos, looking for feedback

Doing my own set of logos for a fictional league and have been trying to learn on the fly. This is my first ever logo I've ever made. This is for the Syracuse Juice

What do you guys think, do I need more practice?

Practice never hurts, but I think it looks great. It's not obvious, but the additional light area you've created behind the juice-head adds additional depth to the logo. I tested it looking at here on the screen at 50% zoom and it still looks good. My guess, and I am no logo guru, is that the initial criticisms, if you receive them, is that the logo itself may be better visible with a larger contrast behind it, but personally I think it's just great.

Especially for a first attempt, it appears you have some real talent. Good luck and be sure to share.

Nice!!

I would love to see that logo without the whole button-idea.

Other than it being a button that is one sweet logo.

That's great to hear, and I appreciate it. Feel free to use it yourself if you'd like for a league, eventually i will have unis for it too. There's always room for improvement though, but I am proud of it especially being a first attempt. HS computer class paid off I guess lol

Now don't get me wrong. Buttons are ultra-popular right now. And you did a real nice job with that.

Looking forward to more of your work.

And...thanks for the logo!

Nice first try.

Here's a few things I would do with this logo:

Add a border with a secondary color.

Align the gloss to top center.

Enlarge the logo image.

Add a white stroke around logo image.

Make background transparent.

Although not necessary, size logo to 150x150. I don't like having the game down-sizing the logo.

This is what it would look like...

Oooooo good catch. Didn't even notice the white background. That's why you're the master.

Looking at your logo again, nevermind aligning the gloss, I think I like it where you have it.

Yeah no problem! Yeah the buttons are popular definitely, really I just like to use them as the team logo for the standings and what not. I will for sure put up more as I create them and am satisfied enough w them to post.

This is why you are as great as everyone else says lol. Thank you for the additional tips, they will help me out alot. The gloss, however, I intentionally did off center just to see how it would look as I have noticed most buttons have it top center.

But man, I sure do like that final version of the logo after you finished up with it. Thats awesome.

-EDIT- Nevermind the gloss comment justafan, you changed opinion before I typed this lol so thanks

Hey, I'm nobody, but I do agree the 'tilt' to the gloss adds an additional dimension to the logo. It's as if it, in this case, resembles more the orange, spherical, and view at an angle. I like its additional depth.

Thx to all you guys and your feedback, this is why this is such a great community. Anyways, with criticism and tips (endgame, honorable_pawn, justafan), my next try:

Okay, well that one has the 'gloss', if you will, actually over the bear. The bear needs to be in the foreground and he appears a bit covered up. Is that a separate layer that you can move back so the bear's on top? And I'd increase the size of the 'halo' effect a bit, and a tad more toward the color family of the background.

The gloss should be on top, but in this case it does not look right. Maybe it needs to be more transparent. It's a trial and error thing getting it right.

ALOT of trial and error, plus personal preference factors in as well. Definitely something I'm working on. Really justafan, those few tips set me in the right direction I'll tell you what.
