A different kind of league....

Several legends leagues have been started with varying degrees of success.

I believe I've hit upon a good concept for a legends league which will allow the mixing of players from various eras, prevent teams composed solely of superstars, and be viable as a career league.

To see the concept, check out the Timeline Baseball League at http://www.legendsport.com/baseball/timeline

The league won't be for everyone, which I understand, however if you believe you'd like to be a part of something different, (hopefully) challenging and fun, this may be one for you.

One thing not mentioned in the rules (which you should definitely read to get the flavor of the league) is the career-based aspect.

Only 1 franchise has been taken (the NY Yankees), so we're starting with a (nearly) blank slate.

Thanks,
Joe

I can't believe there haven't been more people knocking down your door to get into this league.

Check out his other awesome leagues to see what you'll be getting a taste of...

Greatest Generation

Polyester Dreams

I'm proud to be the Brooklyn Dodgers in this league....come join the mayhem!!

Well, this guy has started and then folded several leagues in the past, citing "lack of time..." only to then begin starting more new leagues a few months later.

I am of the opinion that if a commissioner starts a league, he has an obligation to those owners who have put time into the league to hang in there if things aren't going so well. If real life issues force a commish to shut down a league, so be it- but shutting down a league because you'd rather start a different one is not a valid justification. Personally, I wouldn't want to join a new league that was started by someone who operated that way.

On the other hand, many people do seem to enjoy the Legendsport leagues that have worked out... but you'd better hope this is one of the ones that does if you sign up for it.

OMG.... we have someone from Yuma on the boards?!

Metsgeek, good luck with the Dodgers.
Shouldn't your PABF team be the "Criminals?"

Legendsport, good luck filling the league. Polyester Dreams looks like a great concept.

Speaking of Poly Dreams - there are two teams available there if anyone is interested. I'm going to post for the openings soon, we're just wrapping up the 1969 season - World Series begins tomorrow.

I apologize to anyone offended by the 3 leagues I've folded. The actual reasons were, as stated "lack of time" and also lack of GM participation and the fact that I couldn't find replacement GMs for openings. I have never and will never fold a league just so I can start a new one.

GGB, Poly & Timeline will be around as long as there are GMs willing to participate in them.

I moved here about 2 years ago, and it always amazes me when I hear the opinions on Yuma. You'd think we were some little dirt 'burg. It's actually a huge city for Arizona (third largest in AZ, I think...), about 80,000 during the summer....well over 200,000 during the winter.

I actually would have chosen the name Criminals, but the nicknames were already assigned. I do have a Strat team named the Yuma Criminals (which just won the championship, I might add ).

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this league BIG TIME. Joe, any relation to the ballplayer of the same name??

Yep, though somewhat distant - the HOFer was a cousin of my Grandpa

Here is the current divisional alignment of the Timeline League:

Cartwright League
East
Boston Red Sox
New York Yankees
Philadelphia Athletics (PHA)
Providence Blues
Washington Senators
OPEN

West
Cleveland Indians
Louisville Colonels
Seattle Mariners
St. Louis Browns
Troy Haymakers
OPEN

Doubleday League
East
Atlanta Braves
Brooklyn Dodgers
New York Giants
Philadelphia Phillies
Pittsburgh Pirates
OPEN

West
Chicago Cubs
Cincinnati Reds
Houston Astros
St. Louis Cardinals
OPEN
OPEN

As you can see there are five OPEN slots - I have 2 people already interested who have not submitted specific teams, so really there are 3 slots remaining.

Joe

Did you register on this board JUST to tell us that?

I, for one, take offense to the way you paint Joe in this post.
He's never been anything but a Commish/GM that I could count on and I'm sure I'm not the only one of this opinion.

I remember last summer during the All Star Game, Joe was in Milwaukee working for mlb.com and he STILL did the sims for the league I was in at the time during that entire week.

That's the kind of Commish I want.

Gee, Joe - is there something you're not telling us about the FLB?

Seriously - Joe's absolutely right about the problems with finding and keeping GMs for the now-defunct leagues. AUB had computer control on 6-8 teams, IIRC.

And not to speak out of turn ('cuz I don't know if the openings have been filled) - but there are a few openings in the FLB (3 I think) - some pretty decent teams too.

Nuk
GM
FLB - Vancouver Lumberjacks
GGB - Pittsburgh Pirates
POLY - Chicago Cubs
PWBL - Boston Red Sox (1946 AL Champs)
Timeline - Philadelphia Phillies

The league is full. I will post updates in this forum on how we're doing (just in case anyone may care to check us out).

Thanks to everyone for checking the league out. Feel free to pop by and see how things develop - it should be interesting. Any interested parties just need to drop me an email at commish@legendsport.com if you're interested in any of the leagues I'm running.

Thanks also to Cooleyvol & Nuk for their kind words.
