Seasonal Endurance, Calling pitches, Small interface change

1. Some sort of seasonal endurance number or rating. As the season goes on, that number slowly decreases. This would be in addition to the day to day rest rating. It would prevent you from over using players though out the season.

It would really come into play with pitchers. The more you use a pitcher through out the season, the faster it decreases.

For example: Your ace starting pitcher starts out with a seasonal endurance rating of 100. He throws a lot of complete games, works a lot of innings, throws a lot of pitches through out the season. Pitches with 4 days rest occasionaly. By the time he gets to the end of the season, his endurance rating has dropped to 50. His velocity drops, his game stamina isn't quite as high. He can't long during a start.

Same pitcher, you limit his pitch count, keep a cap on his innings pitched per start, give him an extra days rest. At the end of the season, he's got a rating of 85-90. He's fresh, his velocity is there, his game stamina is strong.

Real life example: in 1986 with the red sox, Roger Clemens was a work horse throughout the season. In the playoffs that year, he wasn't as sharp. In game six of the world series, he could only last 7 innings . Bruce Hurst had a stint on the disabled list, didn't work as many innings, and he was the red sox post season ace. He was fresh.

This seasonal endurance rating could also vary with players: a guy like cal ripken could have a start of the season endurance rating of 200. Pedro Martinez could have an endurance rating of 90. Steven Strassburgh could have a rating of 85. Bob Feller could have a seasonal endurance of 250 etc.

2. A Pitch selection mode. You call for a fast ball, curve ball, etc. They had it in Microleague...

3. Change section numbers for game strategy from double digit numbers to letters and allow keyboard selection. Safety Squeeze should be choice C. not 12. That;s a no brainer.

I think #1 is already accounted for "behind the scenes".

As long as the endurance thing is an option or only tied to modern baseball when pitchers can barely throw 180 inings.
I dont want an arcade game so I am against #2.
I am for customizable keyboard controls.

Yeah, I get that.

On one hand, I feel it adds to the strategy in the sense that you call for a fastball instead of a forkball, it could have an effect on the outcome of the AB positive or negative. Like, pitch around vs. pitch

On the other hand, it brings on visions of that gaudy batters box with all those controls that are so prevalent in those circus arcade games like the show.

How about this? Could you live with it if it were a mode? Like "pitch selection mode"

Also, the endurance rating: if it was dynamic, it could account for pitchers who pitched a zillion innings a season in the pre-modern era. Although I wouldn't know how to actually determine the rating.

I think all I'm really looking for is a penalty for overuse.

But if it really IS a rating embedded in the game, I sure would like to see it

Pitch Selection Mode I am all for. I would even use it for games where I have myself as a SP where I throw a knuckleball and screwball.
I do agree with the overuse thing. I think Tony Larussa had that. Maybe High Heat
