Expansion in a Fictional League
I'm running a fictional league that is starting in 1900s with a 6 team league using college and high school feeder system and currently a 15-man reserve squad. Tracking MLB for financial and statistical migration.
I plan to make all changes during the Winter Meetings. What I am looking to do is slowly expand the league through the years. I have a few questions about how to manage this process. If I want to expand the regions, I would think that I could just change the scope of the region in league setup. If I only did that the feeder system will still mostly use local talent or will they start pulling in youths from the other regions? When I actually want to add teams is it better to increase the feeder leagues in the season prior or can I do it the same season as expansion? And when expanding do I just use the league setup to increase the number of teams? Will that cause an expansion draft? How about realignment? If I add more divisions and move teams around to other divisions will it keep the team together as a unit if the team name remains the same? When relocating a franchise, should you do that in team setup? As new teams are added into the league, they get newer and larger stadiums. What is the best way to grow the stadiums for existing teams so that they can keep up with the Joneses? Any other feedback on taking care of an ecosystem like this would be greatly appreciated. |

When you get to the offseason the expand league option will show up. To expand go to league setup. From there you will see the Expand League. Choose the amount of teams and the league/division and your exspansion rules. If you plan on adding a new division or going from one division to 2 or 2 to 3 3 to 4 do so after January 1st. The game handles this weird otherwise. You can still do it when you do you expansion teams but it shows up weird in history. To make new divsions, go to League Setup Edit League Structure, add a new division and move the teams to the new division, generate new schedule good to go. I recommend backing up before any major changes. I have always relocated a team from the Team Setup page. The way I do my main custom league is although my season start year is 2003, the rest of my league looks like 1973. I use finances and strategy from that year and manually redo it for each season. (You can check the evolve options but I can't since I have a modern MLB league and everything reverts to the actual year) I use real parks, so for most of my teams they are the bowl like parks like 3 Rivers, Riverfront, Veterans. When I expand they reflect the newer parks like Skydome, Olympic, I change some teams from grass to turf and then back to grass again. |
