Colorado Rockies 2023 (est. 2021)
HELP! Season three of this rebuild. Been a slow process, made worse by an awful start. We're 11-21, pythag record of 16-16! Am I that bad at managing? So far my 5 FA acquisitions in the offseason have netted me -0.5 WAR
![]() I feel like what I have applied in learning has not been good. Any tips, thoughts, ideas, questions are appreciated. From lineups to rotation/bullpen management, trades, etc. |

Alright, so got some help on another thread and here's what has happened since then...
That was May 3; the rest of the month wasn't any better as we finished the month 8-19 for a record of 18-38 (.321). I had gone from 62 to 69 wins in the first two season (.382, .425), so this was a big step back. Traded Gary Sanchez June 1 for Zack McKinstry and MiL RP Melvin Jimenez. This did not help immediately as we dropped three straight in Miami, couple of series wins vs the Cubs and Seattle, lost 2 of 3 at home to Atlanta then got swept at the Dodgers (record 23-48, .324). Won 2 of 3 in SF, went home to lose the 1st of 4 against the Pirates, but then we really turned a corner...11 straight wins! This included an 11 run comeback at home against the Padres (1st in the West) with an 11th inning walkoff homer. A 9-run 9th in Washington to beat the Nationals 20-8... A 2-1 win in Philadelphia... We won games all sorts of ways. Even a combined shutout against the Pirates. Lost the last 2 games against the Nationals 10-5, 11-6 (bullpen finally was worn out), then finished our last series before the All-Star Break at home v. the Dodgers. After losing 6 of 7 to them going into that series we walked off games 1 & 3 (6-5, 7-6 (10)) to finish pre-AS break 38-53 (.417) and still -4 to our Pythag. |

Final team stats from season 3... It should be noted we were 25-50 in June, rattled off 11 wins in a row and really wound up being an above .500 team (nearly .600) the rest of the way. Still really lack a QUALITY #1 starter, bullpen depth and defense. It is Coors, so these things ARE inflated, but working on the D...

Aquired Jorge Polanco in last year (+ Team Option) of his contract for 2B Zach McKinstry & AAA 3B Messinger. This is a good get for us, hope it can be a big difference maker.

Hernandez was awful last year, and even while retaining half of his last year of salary I still added to the budget (helped go get Polanco and still leave room for more to get done if possible). He also asked twice to be traded because he was losing time to guys that were performing better.
Marquez & Velasquez are both 24 controllable for a number of years and Marquez may slide right into my bullpen. Velasquez is 2.5 star AAA guy who could fill in if necessary in the OF. Here was Hernandez's line last year: Last edited by LittleHurt81; 08-04-2021 at 11:45 PM. |
