Possible to play this way?
I want to have the NL and AL as separate, associated leagues, with a shared inaugural draft of historical players, then random rookies importing as free agents thereafter. Is this workable?

Using the association feature for the inaugural draft would do what you want but not sure that you can do the free agent thing unless you hand import the teams. In your association, the subsequent rookie drafts would also be shared so that would do what you wanted if you just do a draft each year, that could give you the desired effect.

This is how I did it. Start with what year you want, say 2000. Do the rest of your game options and start the league. Before the draft go to League setup. and create a new league call it the National League and put a few fictional teams in it the way it does when you start a new league. Go back to league setup Edit League Structure. Move all the real Nl teams to the new NL, delete the fictional teams.. Rename the original AL and then associate them. Should be good to go. I will run a test of this myself since i have not done this in almost a year. What year did you want to start with so maybe i can just upload it for you. Missed the FA question. i have not tried that but yes it would work if you get rid of the Ammy draft and click teh button for rookies as FA's Last edited by The Game; 04-10-2013 at 12:58 PM. |

1. The Game Home Screen makes it appear the ML-turned-AL has both the original draft and the association draft scheduled, while the NL properly shows only the association draft. 2. When I go to the Draft Rules screen, only NL teams are shown in the draft order. Reaching this screen from an AL menu shows the same NL-teams-only setup, with the AL logo replacing the NL. 3. AL teams are, however, available in the drop-downs, as demonstrated by assigning pick No. 4 to the White Sox. I thought that meant I'd be able to assign all 16 teams one pick apiece over two rounds and double the scheduled rounds to get a complete draft, until... 4. ... I looked at the Draft Order screen, where even-numbered rounds appear to have no picks, at which point it became clear I was in far over my head. |

Once you get your seperate league set up, you need to go to the game menu and set them up as an association. Under the association, you can set up the leagues to have the same rules and you can set up your inaugural draft and future ammy drafts as shared drafts and that will eliminate the effort you were trying to do. The free agents will be shared and as long as you set up the trading to allow to trade with other leagues, the only difference will be you have them in seperate leagues. The association will also allow you to handle setting up a world series any way you want it.

I absolutely associated them, which the screenshots were intended to show. The one of the game home screen, in particular, which shows two different drafts scheduled -- the "ML inaugural draft," a remnant of when the AL was a subleague, and the "MLB inaugural draft," born when I associated the AL with the new NL.
I copied the game file so I could toy around. I ran the draft as originally constituted, and only the NL teams made picks. Subsequent efforts show that setting the draft order round-by-round seems to work, though that would be a colossal time sink. A time sink I might be willing to engage in if the draft pool weren't littered with "Ignacio Teixeira" and friends: |

What about this? Like I said I have not done this since 13 1st came out and got tired of the league.
Separate the 2 league associate them, run the AL Inaugural draft. Go to League setup, under the Associations page ( forgot if thats where you can do this.) Release all players and schedule an inaugural Draft. See if that fixes it. I have not had a chance to test this. What year did you want to start with? Okay, this seems to have worked:
A thousand thanks for the idea to create a new league and transfer teams over, which is the key step and something I might never have thought to do. From there, it was just a matter of experimentation to find the correct sequence. |
