minor league setups
While I am not new to OOTP per say, I have always dabbled in fictional leagues with reserve rosters, or just one set of minors, AAA. Now I am thinking about expanding my minor leagues and I'm just not sure if I want all of them. How do you guys play your minors like when you use an MLB quickstart? Is there a way just to let the computer control your entire minor league system but at the same time be able to occasionally make a decision about a call up or ending somebody down? Also how many sets of minor leagues do you usually use? From AAA on down to rookie ball? I'm just not sure where to start and I want to have a plan in mind for when I get OOTP 14 and start a league with current MLB rosters

In Manager Options (first screen image), you have the option of letting the AI control various aspects of minor league roster management. See more about that here.
Now, you say that once in a while, you want to make a decision "about a call up or ending somebody down." Well, note in that screen that Roster Moves (on the major league level) is separate from the Minor League Promotions/Demotions option. That means you can control who is sent up to or down from the parent club while letting the AI decide whether he stops at AAA or AA or lower. Wait. Maybe you want a player NOT to move from one minor league level to another, while letting the AI control all the others. Even that is possible by using the Player Strategy screen (second screen image). See more about that here. Personally, I never use more than four levels of minor leagues: AAA, AA, A, and Rookie. I create minor leagues in a generic fashion, each level a mirror image of the MLB organization. I do personalize minor league team nicknames and locations, though. Four levels gets the job done and fits well in the minor leagues screen. No advanced A or short season A or what have you.

I let the AI handle my minor leagues. Promotions/Demotions, Signings/Releases for one league and i will switch to this in all my leagues soon. I love it. I lock certain players at a level and/or position until i want to promote them myself, often it is that I want a player to play 3B and the AI wants to use him as DH pr 1B.
I use 4 levels for most fictional leagues. |
