Scouting Report Summary
Two suggestions I have for possible improvements to the summary part of Scouting Reports:
1. Older Players - When I go see the scouting report for a player who's clearly at the end of his career (38yr old Prince Fielder for example) the summary will say "career minor leaguer". Is there a way for the game to better recognize a great or meaningful player who aged and say something more relevant instead of career minor leaguer? 2. Contradictions - I have several hitters where the summary will say "overall poor hitter" and then under contact it will say "A nice inside out swing path that gives him the ability to hit for avg". Those two statements don't go together to me. I've seen the same where the summary says awful hitter and under power it will say major impact. Thoughts? |

I get your point under #2, but it is possible for a player to have immense power but be lousy overall, for example if said player's ability to make contact is nonexistent. I'd personally rather the summary be more of a "I think he'll hit [insert AVG/OBP/SLG] with X SB and [insert quality] defense at [position]".

Scouting reports are one area of the game that need a lot of work. I play stats only and I go out of my way to recruit and then retain the best scout I can. I depend on what he tells me (I play with complete accuracy turned off) and I want that report to be as in depth as possible.

I agree that scouting reports can be a headache. Not that scouts are perfect as there should be some grey area, but as mentioned it would be nice if the report improved upon the language.

Scouting Report Summary
This is the reason I don't play stats only on the surface. So long as you have scouting ratings shown and not real ratings, those bars are really a scouting report themselves. 8/8 power means the scouts expects large power numbers. Easier to see a quick bar then read a (sometimes wonky) blurb of text.
If that player goes half the season with 2 homers, I'm taking him out of my cleanup spot. In this regard I do play 'stats only'

I don't care for a lot of the scouting report verbage in general. I know it's only a game but I can't see an official scouting report saying "a little leaguer could take this guy deep", "he should have a long career...in the broadcast booth", "he's going to have neck problems from watching his pitches leave the park", etc. I would like more concise reports in this area (some already exist) such as "plus power, plus plus power, elite control, middle of the lineup bat, etc. Just remarks that sound somewhat professional rather than a couple of kids sitting around talking about players.

Thanks to all the comments. Definitely an area that I think needs work, and not just on the two areas I suggested above. And like was said, it's a big reason I don't play stats only which I would like to do.
