to buy or not to buy

I just joined the forum.I own Title Bout 1 and am interested in buying the newer version( game does not work on my new computer).I see that the game is in beta test for a new release.I also see the game on ebay for sale (cheap). I'm wondering, what I should do, wait for the new game (?),or buy the ebay game,or download (I would be using the game on another computer not the one I download to.can I use it on more than one computer?).Any help or opinions would be appreciated.I will be running the game on windows 7.

Just do a search on ebay, Title Bout. I see 2 different publishers , Fusion software and U Wish Games. They are out of the U.K..

I'm not certain what version you're seeing on eBay. What's currently available (TBCB 2.5) was initially sold with a disc option, but now I believe that you can only get it at the OOTP site as a download. It works on Windows 7. I can't speak to the O/S "ceiling" for earlier versions.

TBCB 2.5 was released more than five years ago and except for a patch, has not been updated. Before you wait for the release of TBCB 2.6, I'd advise you to go through all of the postings related to updates here over the past four years to get a sense of what the future holds for a new version.

Those of us who have been around this forum for a while have become cynical and jaded concerning a new version. While it's been a long time coming, it might still be a long time before it arrives...if it ever actually does!

So in the end, it's really your decision, do you go with TBCB 2.5 now or wait an unspecified period of time for the "new" edition. Also, you should be aware that there's a licensing issue involved with TBCB 2.5. Some other members have had problems (rather serious, frustrating problems) when re-installing/moving the game to a new drive or computer. The licensing issue apparently exists whether you load it off a CD or if you've done the download.

Pesonally, I'd be rather loath to download what they're offering on eBay. You'd certainly want to know the version that's being sold and be convinced that it will work with Windows 7.

It appears they are are offering used CD versions of the game, but as professordp mentioned there could be licensing issues with those and I would certainly make in inquiry to the seller about it if you go that route.

TBCB 2.6, the version currently being worked on and in beta testing is coming along slowly as mentioned and is now on build 7. There is no official release date, so I would not dare to even offer a time frame. In addition 2.6 is basically just the current version ported to a new platform in anticipation for an eventual (hopefully) roleplaying version of the game. While the focus is also to knockout some of the little glitches that exist in the current version, it is doubtful there will be anything new added at this time, though there is hope a couple of small enhancements might make it in. So basically, you can expect just a repackaged (prettier) version of the current incarnation.

TBCB 2.5 is still a very good game (strategies need work, but you don't have to use them) and stoppage on cuts can be high at times, but it is the best simulation on the market. You can see how many people are still playing the game regularly in the 'Inside the Ropes' forum which chronicles the 'universes' players have created. I think I can say with a great deal of confidence that you will not find another game 7 years old that still keeps folks playing like TBCB has.

Whatever choice you make I am sure you will enjoy the game and I would suggest downloading the 2.5 demo and playing around with that before you decide.

Thanks for the information guys. I have been tempted to buy the ebay game for a while now,but I have had reservations(?).I'll probably try the 2.5 download soon. I have really enjoyed playing the 1st version, for 10+ years but as stated ,it doesn't work on my new(new to me) computer .
