Wladimir Klitschko Vs. Hasim Rahman
Wladimir Klitschko wins Unanimous Decision in Germany against undefeated Heavyweight contender Hasim Rahman WBA Heavyweight Championship ![]() ![]() Above: Wladimir Klitschko 24-0 (22KO’s) Knocks down Hasim Rahman 14-1 (11KO’s) on his way to winning a 12 round Unanimous decision in there WBA world title bout. Tonight in Germany, the world title fight showdown between Ukrainian heavyweight contender Wladimir ‘Dr. Steelhammer’ Klitschko and Hasim ‘The Rock’ Rahman took place. In an exciting bout where both fighters hit the canvas, it was Klitschko who ended up the victor. Scorecards of 115-111, 115-111 & 116-110 where read out as Klitschko had his hands raised to win his first world title bout. Rahman didn’t make it easy on the night, knocking Klitschko down in round 6 with a hard hook to the head. Klitschko looked like he was off balance some-what and took a tumble to the canvas, and the 8 count was read out. He got up to his feet however and dominated most of the rounds from there on in a very good action fight. In an interview with the German press afterwards, Klitschko praised Rahman for coming over to Germany to take the fight, and said that in future he would be working with Emmanuel Steward his trainer to tighten up his defence. When quizzed about who he would like next, Klitschko spoke about options such as highly rated Russian Olympian Alexander Povetkin (13-0 (9)) or a possible match up with another American prospect in Tony Thompson (12-0 (7)). On a fairly average undercard, Krzysztof Wlodarcyzk (21-0 (21)) defeated fellow Polish cruiserweight Mateusz Masternak (10-1 (5)). Wlodarcyzk, who has proved to have some serious punching power in the Cruiserweight division, stopped Masternak in the 5th round of their 10 round bout, dominating every round. He landed some devastating hooks on his opponent and it could have been stopped at least 2 rounds earlier. Wlodarcyzk is now looking towards a step up in class on his way to a world title bout in future, with a potential match-up against fellow elite level fighter Evander ‘The Real Deal’ Holyfield.

Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Brian Vera - Middleweight World Title
Roy Jones Jr. wins with a stunning 9th round Knockout over top contender Brian Vera ![]() Above: Roy Jones Jr. after winning the WBO Middleweight World Title. Tonight in Las Vegas, undefeated Roy Jones Jr. stunned everyone in attendance by knocking out top Middleweight contender Brian Vera with a dramatic 9th round Knockout. Earlier in the fight (Round 3) Vera caught Jones Jr. with a flush punch to the chin that knocked Roy down, everyone thought from then on that the upset was on the cards as Vera poured it on to try and end the fight early. However the Pensacola native used his slick defensive skills to ride the storm and rallied in the next few rounds before landing a knockdown of his own. He finally managed to land the finishing blow with a devastating 1 punch KO in round number 9 and looked delighted with the finish. ![]() Above:Brian Vera, Middleweight Contender. After the fight Roy spoke to HBO Commentator Larry Merchant: “Well Larry, you know me, I’m loud, I’m brash, but I got the skills to back it up, and all y’all that said I was just hype, I’ll prove y’all wrong! I want to be the best in the sport, I know I got the skills, I’m too good for anyone in this division to trouble me, y’all will see that! Remember the name, Roy Jones Junior!” Big words from a fighter that is clearly on a hot streak right now, with an impeccable 25-0 (21KO’s) record, he certainly has the hallmarks of being a great fighter. Time will tell his true greatness, but after tonight’s win against Vera, no-one can doubt he has room for manoeuvre in the 160lb weight division. On the undercard, the chief support bout was filled with promising welterweight prospect, Kermit ‘The Killer’ Cintron (15-0 (12KO’s)) who now has 7 straight KO wins to his name, and is now showing the sort of skill and power that could take him to a world title in the 147lb division. Tonight he faced Orlando Lora (11-1 (8KO’s)) and proved that even when pushed to the ropes and hurt, he could fire back with hard shots of his own. Lora hurt Cintron more than once but the Puerto Rican national boxed his way neatly out of corners and ultimately got the KO in the 9th round with one of his signature uppercuts. Cintron will be looking to move to the next level in his next few bouts and he should be in contention for a world title shot before long. ![]() Left: Kermit Cintron after his KO win against Orlando Lora. |

I'd like to see Sheika/Bika. That fight would rule.

Simulating that card with this fight on now, for Sheika's IBO Super Middleweight Strap.
Pre fight talk: Sheika's only big win so far has been his demolition of Jesse Brinkley 13-2 (2KO's) Via 2nd round KO, in capturing his world title, which coincidentally was also his last fight. He's shown himself to be a decent KO puncher at 168 so far, but hasn't shown the sturdiest of chins, being rocked quite a few times in his bout with virtual unknown Nick Brinson. Bika has fought the better competition, and has himself fought for a world title before so knows what it takes to train for a world title bout. Despite getting knocked out by Manny Siaca in 6 rounds of that world title bout, he has also beat some good opposition in Jerson Ravelo, Victor Oganov & Sheika Victim Jesse Brinkley, who he went the distance with over 10 rounds. My Prediction for the fight? I actually think Bika takes this, but he could be knocked out if he goes in too wild, so I wouldn't bet my house on it. Here goes... |

Omar Sheika vs. Sakio Bika - IBO Super Middleweight Title
Sakio Bika wins a lopsided decision against Omar Sheika to capture IBO Super Middleweight Crown! Tonight at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, live on ESPN. the world title showdown between Omar Sheika & Cameroon native Sakio Bika gave the fans some interesting boxing action. It was ultimately Bika who came out the victor, scoring 118-110 on all three judges scorecards. He showed early on in the fight that he was simply the busier man in there. What was surprising is even though he dominated nearly every round of the fight, he simply didn't have that killer instinct to put Sheika away, who looked a shadow of the fighter we saw capture the IBO crown in the first place against Jesse Brinkley. Sheika looked totally disconsolate after the fight, saying he hadn't prepared for the fight properly. He did say however that he would be going back to the drawing-board, and would be back in the gym as soon as possible to put right the mistakes he had made on the night against Bika. When the interview came to Bika, he proclaimed that he had let Sheika off the hook during the fight when it came to getting the KO, wanting to punish him as much as was physically possible for remarks he had made about Bika's wife before the fight at the weigh-in. What now for both fighters? Sheika will almost definitely have to build up his reputation again after this defeat, as he really came up short against the first 'top flight' opponent he faced. As for Bika, he will have to be matched carefully if he is to retain his IBO title belt. While he showed that he can outwork and ultimately outclass boxers on his level, its yet to be seen how far he will be able to go with a chin that is susceptible to sustaining some serious damage. |

Diego Corrales Vs. Shane Mosley - WBO Lightweight Championship.
Corrales Defeats Mosley in gruelling 12 round fight! - calls out Money Mayweather! ![]() Last night at Ballys Hotel, Las Vegas, former Super Featherweight belt holder Diego 'Chico' Corrales (20-1 (14KO's)) beat the unbeaten and highly rated Lightweight King 'Sugar' Shane Mosley (25-1 (19KO's)) in what will no doubt be considered a FOTY candidate by many. Taking the fight to Mosley from the first bell, Corrales constantly walked down Shane not giving him time to work off the jab, leaving him no option but to fight Diego's fight in what turned out to be an out and out dog-fight. Constantly tying him up on the inside, working both body and head, Chico time and again walked Mosley down to the ropes and slammed away with hard hooks that landed cleanly, which Mosley would return in kind with equal viciousness, as the bout would ebb and flow for the first 5 or 6 rounds. It was a real battle by the mid rounds and most reporters ringside had the bout even going into the championship rounds. Corrales then stunned the audience by landing a beautiful left hook to the head that put Mosley down for the first time in his career, and it didn't look like he would get up either. By the time the referee reached 8 Mosley was just about to his feet but looked very groggy. Corrales again got straight to work on hustling the naturally bigger man, and he did such a good job that at the end of the fight judges ringside gave him the unanimous decision victory, with scorecards of: 115-114, 116-111, 116-112 all in favour of the Las Vegas fighter. Corrales was obviously jubilant at the result, becoming a two time double division champion, and he immediately in the post fight interview called out unbeaten Super Featherweight unified Champion Floyd 'Money' Mayweather Jr. (21-0 (17KO's)), saying it was the fight the fans wanted, and it was the fight he wanted. With rumours circulating that Floyd was thinking of making the move to 135lb soon after his next fight against Brazilian Acelino Freitas, it isn't beyond the realm of reason to see this fight from happening very soon in the future. Both fighters are very marketable, with good records against good opposition. If Mayweather manages to get past the unbeaten Freitas next week at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, it could well set up a Corrales vs. Mayweather Jr. superfight in the coming months. ![]() Last edited by Beno999; 12-25-2012 at 03:51 AM. |

Felix Trinidad vs. Antonio Margarito - IBF, Ring Magazine, WBA Welterweight Titles
Margarito destroys Trinidad in 10! Knocks him down 7 times! Madison Square Garden, New York City. Coming into tonight’s bout, both fighters had been on a press tour around New York City to promote the bout. With an estimated purse of $29.4 Million to be split between both fighters ($16 Million for Trinidad, the bigger draw & $13.4 Million for the popular Mexican Margarito) this bout has become massive in recent weeks, garnering much media attention. At the press conference for the fight both combatants where respectful of each other, and no trash talking was given out. The day before the bout, both fighters scaled in under the welterweight limit of 147lb’s, Margarito at a ready 146 ½ lb and Trinidad at 146 ¾ lb. The fight started at a frantic pace in round 1, and both fighters looked nervous to engage as they knew they both possessed power. The first moment Margarito opened up with a combination he caught Felix with a beautiful hook coming in and Trinidad went down to his knees from a beautiful shot. To his credit Trinidad got to his feet quickly, maybe a little too quickly as he still looked shaken. Trinidad took round 2 by establishing his jab and keeping Margarito who came in with very little head movement at a distance where he could easily control the fight. Again in round 3 Trinidad used his jab to keep Margarito at distance, but this time he dropped in a few of his trademark left hooks for good notice that really shook up Margarito, who to his credit took them very well and showed a sturdy beard. Round 4 and it was clear that Margarito came out and made the adjustment to finally start moving his head, working his way inside Trinidad’s jab and working to the body effectively. Margarito won the round purely on work rate, as he throws an alarming volume of punches, if Trinidad was going to stay in this fight he would have too press Margarito further and make him respect his power, as he started to look disheartened by the fact that he wasn’t putting a dent in Margarito. Round 5 was a massive round for Margarito, as he had Trinidad out on his feet. His combination punching was immense, and his volume of punches was off the charts, as Trinidad simply couldn’t cope with the work-rate that Antonio was bringing to him, and every time Trinidad got off a shot Margarito would just keep coming and walk through it like a man possessed. Round 6 saw Felix Trinidad roar back into contention as he came out after a strong word from his father and trainer Felix Trinidad Sr. He ripped shots to the body and head with reckless abandon which is most unlike him. He clearly hurt Margarito but the teak tough Mexican just kept on coming at him, not letting him get any sort of space to create distance. In Round 7 the tide turned again, as Margarito once again bore forward into Trinidad, catching him with a beautiful uppercut that had Trinidad out on his feet for the remaining 2 minutes of the round, trying to hang on and stop himself from being brutally knocked out, he barely managed to make it out of the round and Margarito went back to his corner at the end of the round with his hand raised in the air. A hard cross started proceedings in round 8 that took a clearly tiring Trinidad to the floor for the second time of the evening (and his career). He got up quickly at the 3 count again and went back to work, trying to get himself back in the fight while clearly being rocked and hurt a number of times. It didn’t last long as Trinidad went down to a hard Margarito combination once again. At this point Trinidad was all over the place, and was soon knocked down for a third time in the round, how he managed to make it back to his stool is beyond many people, but he managed it, and came out for round 9. Round 9 began much the same as the last, Margarito throwing punches in bunches, and it resulted in yet another knockdown. Tito was trying to fire back but was simply being outgunned in there. Round 10 showed just how comprehensive of a beat down this was becoming, as Tito was knocked down for the 5th time in the fight, it’s at this point that the Puerto Rican fighters corner should really have been thinking about throwing the towel in and calling this fight off, as it was clear that it was only Trinidad’s fighting pride keeping him in that ring with the Mexican Phenom. Trinidad went down yet again, and it was at this point that the referee decided enough was enough, and stepped between the two fighters to call the fight off…ANTONIO MARGARITO WINS THE BOUT VIA TKO IN ROUND 10. Floyd Mayweather Press Conference Quotes
Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he will dominate the sport of boxing for many years to come!
![]() Speaking at a press conference in the build up to his showdown with undefeated Brazilian super feather Acelino Freitas, Floyd Mayweather Jr. answered a few of the press' questions, and was very vocal about a few issues surrounding him just lately. When asked what he thought to his chances in this fight, here was his answer: "What are my Chances? Really? The question you need to be aksin is what chance does Acelino Freitas have, taking me on in the ring come this Saturday night! I mean I'm proven at the weight, I've had title defenses! Money Mayweather don't fear nobody, nobody comes close to me and I know come Saturday i'ma be victorious, once again, I'm blessed to be in this position." He was also asked for his thought on Corrales' win against Shane Mosley last week, as well as what he thought to a possible move up to 135lb (Lightweight) and a potential super-fight with Diego: "I mean, what he did last week was great, no doubt about it, but like I told y'all before, Money Mayweather dont fear nobody. I got my business to take care of this week against Acelino Freitas, and I fully intend to beat him convincingly, and give the fans what they want. I intend on being in this sport for a long time, keeping that 0, dominating multiple weight divisions, but I got time on my side, so I'm not looking past my next fight this Saturday, but sure, when I'm victorious this Saturday, I'll sit down with Leonard Ellerbe, Al Haymon, and we'll work something out, for sure." It is yet unclear how far Floyd Mayweather Jr. will go in the sport of boxing, but at such a young age with 2 world titles under his belt, and fighting for a third with The Ring Magazine JLW championship on the line this Saturday, he is certainly making waves in the lower weight divisions. The best thing about all of this is that not only is Mayweather such a good self promoter, there are so many top fights and options out there for him, that whatever he does from here on in, as long as he keeps on winning, he will surely make millions. Cintron Vs. Mayorga II rematch gets made after Cintron beats Shannan Taylor in final eliminator! ![]() On the undercard of Mayweather vs. Freitas at the MGM Grand tonight, former world title challenger and hard hitting Kermit 'The Killer' Cintron 20-1 (15KO's) beat Shannan Taylor 14-2-1 (12KO's) in a WBC Final Eliminator to at last get the chance to avenge the only loss on his slate to former Nemesis Ricardo 'El Matador' Mayorga 16-0-1 (12KO's). Many people ringside saw the fight as a close decision that could have gone either way, however the judges saw it differently, all 3 scoring the bout 98-93 in favour of the man from Puerto Rico. After getting stopped in their previous bout via a horrifying 9th Round TKO where the referee definitely failed to step in at the right time, letting Cintron take too much punishment, it is yet to be known if he can learn from the mistakes he made in the last fight and make the right adjustments to come out victorious, but if his current run of form is anything to go by, he has a very good chance. Mayweather Vs. Freitas Unified Championship
Mayweather stops Freitas in 8 in a scintillating display of skill and speed ![]() Floyd Mayweather Jr. 22-0 (18KO's) tonight proved to the world he is the fighter he says he is, a complete offensive and defensive package, an inside wizard, and a master of making adjustments in the heat of battle. Dominating round 1 through 8, he busted up an elite level fighter in Acelino Freitas who himself was unbeaten but now falls to 23-1 (18KO's) with quick combinations, use of an extremely effective shoulder roll, and a jab that was in the Brazilians face all night that offset his balance and made sure he couldn't get any rhythm going in the fight, he was simply not in Floyds league, and it showed. Busting his face up in the 6th, Freitas began to bleed badly from his nose and both his eyes began to swell, and Floyd capitalised on this as Freitas dropped his hands because he was beginning to fatigue due to the lack of oxygen he was being able to get pumped around his body, Floyd made Freitas face look a bloody mess, and the referee had seen enough mid way through the 8th round. Now the WBC, WBO & Ring Magazine Champion has all but cleared up at SFW he can start looking towards his next fight and the focus inevitably turns to his move up a division to 135lb's (LW) and a potential showdown with Diego Corrales 20-1 (14KO's) |

Cotto vs. Harris - WBO Junior Welterweight Championship
Miguel Cotto destroys Vivian Harris in devestating 1st round KO. ![]() Tonight at the Foxwoods Resort Casino, Miguel Cotto 21-0-1 (19KO's) showed exactly why many people see him as one of the most feared fighters of the lower weight divisions, knocking out 17-3 (12KO's) 'Vicious' Vivian Harris, in a very vicious fashion! ![]() Fight fans ringside where treated to one of the best one punch KO's of the year, as a perfectly timed uppercut thrown by Cotto landed early in the first round and Harris was out before he had even hit the canvas, his head violently slapping against the mat as he landed. The referee didn't even bother counting to 10 and the fight was waved off to rapturous applause from the Cotto fans present. After the fight Cotto said that he would be back in the ring very soon, and was just disappointed that he didn't get to take Vivian Harris further into the fight as he would have liked to get some rounds under his belt. He said that he would definitely like to step up his level of competition now that he had established himself as the top dog at 140lb, with a potential big fight against Zab Judah (17-1 (12KO's)) who is on the comeback trail after his controversial DQ loss to Jamar Saunders, a possibility. Sergio Martinez vs. Sergei Dzinziruk - World Title
Dzinziruk upsets Martinez with controversial split decision victory! ![]() In a fight many predicted to go the way of Sergio Martinez 26-1-1 (21KO's), Sergei Dzinziruk who now improves to 23-1 (11KO's) had other ideas, making this a gritty & tactical chess match. A lot of people scoring the bout had Sergio Martinez comfortably ahead when the final bell rang in the 12th round. He looked to have landed the more telling blows all the way through the fight and even managed to knock down Dzinziruk in the 8th round, but the decision didn't go his way in what many people where calling a robbery: Allen Krebs, United States scores the bout 114 to 113 for Sergei Dzinziruk Manuel Oliver Palomo, Spain scores the bout 114 to 113 for Sergio Martinez Tommy Hart, United States scores the bout 115 to 114 for... ...Sergei Dzinziruk The winner and new WBC junior middleweight champion by split decision is Sergei Dzinziruk! After the fight, Martinez immediately called for a re-match, saying that it was an outrage that none of the judges had come close to scoring the fight the way they should have. Dzinziruk protested by saying that he won the fight, but did agree to give Martinez the re-match, so we should get to see this fight happen again sometime soon. |

Great stuff, I'll be reading avidly as it progresses. I for one would love to see the Klitschko brothers have a go at it, despite the wishes of their mother!

Unfortunately Vitali took an early career upset loss and is far down the rankings, so it may be some time before he gets his chance at a world title, let alone a shot at his own brother. I could definitely make this fight in the future however as Vitali is obviously a very capable heavy, so his rise through the rankings could be quicker than anticipated. I'll keep that one in my notebook for a future date! |

Penalosa vs. Mijares - Junior Bantamweight World Title
Cristian Mijares battles his way to first World Title victory with a unanimous decision over Gerry Penalosa! ![]() Going into this Junior Bantamweight title fight, the odds where surprisingly even between both fighters, despite Penalosa going in with a reputation as a fearsome puncher, people realised and respected the boxing skill of Mexican star Cristian Mijares as a big factor on the outcome of this fight. Mijares, who now extends his record to 19-0-1 (1KO), looked to use his jab and speed of foot to outmaneuvre Penalosa, who seemed to be looking to land that one big shot to end the fight early. Penalosa was made to look like the lesser fighter because he couldn't pin down Mijares, who threw a high volume of punches and nicked tight rounds again and again. Penalosa, who is now 21-1 (16KO's) will not find much trouble in getting another big fight, as he has a fan friendly style (albeit crude) and is in a very deep division: Junior Bantamweight Division (TOP 5): 1. Cristian Mijares - 19-0-1 (1KO) - WBC 2. Alexander Munoz - 15-0 (13KO's) - WBA 3. Fernando Montiel - 22-1 (16KO's) - WBO 4. Hugo Cazares - 12-0 (7KO's) 5. Gerry Penalosa - 21-1 (16KO's) Mijares may well look to make his first title defence against Hugo Cazares in an all Mexico showdown, and if he should get through that, a possible Mexican superfight could be on our hands against Fernando 'Cochulito' Montiel to unify the WBC & WBO Junior Bantamweight world titles. Gennady Golovkin vs. Antwun Echols - IBO Middleweight Title
Golovkin vs. Echols: The Final Word ![]() Tonight at the Kazan Sports Palace, Russia, Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin 18-0 (14KO's) faced Antwun 'Kid Dynamite' Echols for the vacant IBO Middleweight World Championship. In the first part of the first round Echols immediately got to work on hustling Golovkin, but it led to a short demise for the American as Golovkin showed his class with a beautifully timed straight right hand that landed flush on Echols' chin that dropped him to the canvas. Echols jumped to his feet at the count of 2 and came mauling in swinging crudely at Golovkin, who took a little half step back and landed another perfectly timed right hand that dropped Echols once more. Antwun looked shocked at how things where going when he made it to his corner, and when he came out for the second round he was dropped another time in round 2 before being stopped in his tracks by yet another one of these trademark right hands by Golovkin. Golovkin defeating a proven contender in KO fashion is only going to make his stock rise, in a stacked division with many big fights a possibility, it looks like Golovkin could well be one of the stars of the future. Echols now falls to 20-4 (18KO's) but has only lost to the best opposition in the division, with his four losses coming against the following: Roy Jones Jr., James Toney, Bernard Hopkins, Gennady Golovkin. |
