The perfect OOTP companion
Last week I mistakenly discovered Spotify. Let's just say I am now a full on hermit. I get home crank up some music and play OOTP for hours.

They're roughly equal, but MOG has Artist Radio and never streams at anything but 320K.

The perfect companion to your perfect companion is a set of speakers. Ironically, I have Bose Companion speakers...lol. I love them. The Companion 2 speakers give me the absolute best sound performance I have ever heard from speakers under $100. Because of their noise elimination circuitry, they are not the best choice for you if you listen to mostly techno or punk/thrash/experimental with lots of feedback and other noises intended. They interpret the spiked signals as noise and suppress it. This is fine for 99% of the music out there, but if you are into that noisy niche as 100% of your listening, they are not for you. I listen to pretty much every type of music and find the drawbacks in some areas to be far outweighed by the strengths across the board. They are GREAT for acoustic music and vocals. NOTHING in the price range comes close. Also, what I find really cool is listening to a live album I have tracked hundreds of times and CLEARLY picking up off mic chatter I never discerned before, even through studio quality headphones. I am not a Bose rep, I just love their product. Find something you like and enjoy. $ for speakers is $ well spent. The music matters.

I use a Bose Wave Radio cabled to my iPod. That works great, too.
From Services we use: Pandora vs. Mog Review - NextAdvisor Daily "Maybe I'm old fashioned, but very often I like to listen to full albums, or perhaps the works of a single artist, something Pandora doesn't allow. Of course sometimes I want a more varied radio-like experience. The thing is, with Mog I can do all these things. I can look up—and listen to—a full album. Or I can look up an artist I like, and then choose to listen to similar artists. I can even vary how much I hear of that original artist in the mix. For instance, I like Johnny Cash, but I want to hear some other country artists as well. Using a convenient slider I can vary the mix from 100% Johnny Cash to an equal mixture of other country artists. Or any ratio in between. The algorithm is smart too. It knows what I mean by country (Waylon, Nelson, Williams). While Mog doesn't rely on the music genome project (a wonky, overly-scientific breakdown which sounds more like marketing than music), it manages to divine what it is that I like. To me, it delivers. I can thumbs-up and thumbs-down music to refine my experience. I can share my listening activity on Facebook or Twitter too. Perhaps Mog's coolest feature is its track or album queuing. When I'm at work I might decide I want to listen to three albums in a row. I search for the albums, click "queue" and the albums will play in the order they were added. If I'm having a party, I can queue up individual tracks for your own unique mix. I can save my playlists, and make them public or private. Mog has a whole social component too: write reviews, blog posts, and create a profile to find fellow music fans." And all of it at 320K.

I actually think the Music Genome Project is very cool and not just a mere marketing device. I like Pandora for what it is, but I prefer Rhapsody for the same reasons re song/playlist selection the reviewer favors MOG over Spot.
By not having on-demand tracks, Pandora pays lower royalties to artists, and they have a lower price point because of that. The various music service options available are somewhat similar in nature to OOTP and ways to play it in that everyone can find something they really like, though it won't be the same for everybody. |

Here's a great way to discover bands/artists you will like, based on similarity to bands/artists that you do like: Music-Map - The tourist map of music

When I had XM I loved listening to outlaw country/cross country. Got to liking a lot of artists, but it was based on hearing one or two of their songs. Now, I can listen to entire albums. Robert Earl Keen, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Pat Green, James McMurtry, Jerry Jeff Walker etc......Lots of great music coming out of Texas. Oh and Willie has always been one of my favorites.
