How does OOTP re-rate players after serious injuries?

I was wondering if anyone has any insight into how OOTP re-rates players after they have suffered serious injuries? For example, Victor Martinez had a serious knee injury that forced him to miss all of the 2012 season. His ratings in OOTP 13 are really good, but will they be downgraded some in version 14 or is there a waiting period to see how well he bounces back in 2013? Thanks.

I have a similar question:

I had a top 10 starter who got injured, conveniently right after I locked him up for 6 years (he's 28) at a fair price $18 million per (some top starters earn over $30, depending on the year they hit free agency, usually when they are one of only 2 or 3 top guys available).

He was out 14 months, and his ratings didn't take a hit. I was kind of surprised so I asked for a scouting report the day before he was due to come off the DL. I get the report the next day, nope ratings still look good, so I send him to a rehab assignment and ask my minor league manager to update the pitching staff. Huh, he is a middle reliever? I have lots of good starters, but this guy is top 10 in the MLB so I take a closer look. His stamina has dropped from a barely acceptable 45 (out of 100) to 20, which is too low to start.

So now I have a guy who makes $18 million per year, but his stuff is only that of a middle reliever, low 70's. His movement and control are both low 80's.

I have shopped him around and i fully expected to get the old "we don't want your overpaid veterans" line, but there are several decent offers, unfortunately, I don't really need anything on my MLB roster and teams are loathe to include prospects.

I am sure I can work something out, but I am curious to see if his stamina returns, if it does I wouldn't trade him. If it doesn't, I will be stuck with him as I am 5 days away from the trade deadline, plus I may end up stuck with a MR making $18 million. As of now, I can get a decent trade from the AI, so I am led to believe that his stamina will come back....or that the AI will use him as a starter anyway.

Any thoughts on whether the stamina will come back?

I think anecdotally that stamina can change based on how a pitcher is used. Leave him in the minors for awhile and force start him as a starter, same for spring training.

From what I understand his ratings will most likely be based on his previous performance and projected 2013 output. I think it depends on the player though. For example if Harper or Trout missed an entire season I do not think OOTP would downgrade their ratings at all, especially since they are young. For most guys though like Martinez his ratings may take a slight hit but I do not think it will be anything too drastic. That's at least what I've observed in the past.

He wasn't injured in-game so there is no possible connection to the player rating system. Any player injured in the game would have some probability of taking a hit based on several factors.

Edit

This is a roster maker problem.

Yeah I was thinking from a roster maker's point-of-view when I thought of this question. I was wondering how OOTP Developments would view his injury and whether or not they would take a wait-and-see attitude before downgrading his ratings.

I would object to that since it would set a precedent of guessing instead of using available data. Why not downgrade Josh Hamilton or Davis Ortiz based on how they finished the season.

I would feel the same way. But I had someone in my online league ask me if I knew whether or not Victor Martinez' ratings would take a hit because of his knee injury when OOTP 14 comes out. I think I can give him a pretty strong "No" on that one. Thanks guys.
