Nerlens Noel and the #1 pick

This picture was taken at the UK practice facility and I guess was supossed to be private. But now is it making it's rounds on the internet and could be sinking Noel's draft stock.

Before I post the picture, let me state that I have no inside knowledge of the situation. I have not worked him out and I am not a doctor.
I am just going on what I see from this picture.

That left knee looks absolutely hideous. I thought ACL surgery was supposed to be arthroscopic? That looks like a full length incision. And the knee cap looks about 4 inches below where it is supposed to be.

It is amazing that in 2013 the 'Lure of the athletic big man' still draws in teams like a Sirens call.
You already have a player who has next to no skills offensively.
I don't always believe that a player who does not have a 'NBA body' is useless. But Noel takes scrawny to an almost unheard of level. His weight is listed at 206 and he is 6'11 3/4 without shoes.

To give some perspective, someone at another forum I visit did some research and stated that 11 of the 30 starting PGs from this past season weighed over 185 lbs.

Admittedly this is a very weak draft (at least on paper)
Possibly the worst draft selection since 2000. If I was an NBA GM I would be extremely wary on taking Noel #1. I would even hesitate taking him in the top 10
He is not expected to even play until January and I don't know how realistic that is seeing as how he has not even tried to run on his knee yet. He is just now shooting free throws.
Then given his skill set, there is a chance his already non existent offensive game will not have time to develop.
I think at best he projects to be a more athletic but less physical Tyson Chandler.
At worst he becomes the first #1 overall pick in NBA history to play two seasons and not have the team pick up his team options years and he finds himself trying to make it in Europe.

Knee injuries are so critical to todays game with it's super athletic playing style, getting around picks, sharp cuts and having to cover so much space on the defensive floor because of historic 3 point shooting numbers.

But that athletic big man might just lead the Cavaliers ship towards the rocks
I hope I am wrong

I think that big lump is not his kneecap. Just looks like swelling.

I had ACL surgery last summer and had incisions rather than an arthroscopic surgery (but my scar isn't nearly that long and I had my surgery done in Europe by a Polish doctor).

I was so happy the Magic didn't get the first pick, because it means they wouldn't be railroaded in picking him. Now they have more flexibility.

Not to pile on...
But reports now are that Noel has a history of surrounding himself with some pretty shady characters. Furthermore, he has blown off several meetings with various agents. Not just refused to meet them, but actually setting up appointments and never showing up.

That is bizarre behavior from a possible #1 pick

Unfortunately, this draft just does not have a solid #1 overall pick. That is unfortunate for the Cavilers. The good side is that if they choose to go with someone else, the pick is defensible since there is no clear #1.

I cannot wait until next Thursday. Should be an interesting night and we may see some draft night trades.
I also can't wait to see where Dennis Schroeder goes. The NBA needs more Germans.

not a shot Cavs take him.. looks like Lenn or a trade IMO. id be fine with those 2 options over Noel.

IMO, i hope they throw money at West. they need a veteran big man like him in the paint.

I would not be surprised if the Cavs trade that No 1 pick. We really want to make the playoffs this upcoming season, and I think the focus will be on getting a big man who can help right now.

That ACL surgery does look bad. While my scar is about as long as his in the photo my knee looks normal and 15 yrs since I had my surgery i have only had problems with my knee twice since and both were in 2000 when i played community college baseball.

#6 to Suns. I have no clue if this is good or bad for Phoenix or Noel. I kinda gave up on NBA, I am still upset that it took Rose til next year to come back while Adrian Peterson who is older and plays a more demanding sport/position came back in under 9 months.

Noel is headed to the 76ers through a trade.
New Orleans is reportedly going to get Jrue Holiday

So they want a center to probably replace Bynum who infuriated the fan base with a knee injury. So they trade their best player for someone coming off a major knee injury.

Seriously, can I get one of these GM jobs?
