Help! How can I open my quickstarts?

I've been using my QS's forever, and yesterday I got a new laptop that is Windows 8 instead of Windows 7. I copied my quickstarts into the folder, and it said it must be downloaded through add-ons central. Ok. The manual talks about created an xml file on a server, etc. What is the easiest way for me to get these working on my computer. I have no idea what a schema even is. Thanks a lot in advance.
