OK we are ready to roll, the tournament fights will be 15 rounds each, which will be the only time the boxers will fight above the three round format (barring another tournament if the title is ever vacated for any reason)

The tournaments will have a brief round by round summary since it is a special event, while the matches will just have the results, money made and a "moment of the match" commentary

Good luck to all the teams

Chilton Cup - 1st round results

...
....Tommy Gibbons vs Gerry Cooney

Round
1Slow round with Gibbons jabbing and clutching and Cooney working the body
2Gibbons is busier and finds a home for the jab again, Cooney is chasing
3More wrestling with Gibbons landing early and Cooney surging at the end
4Cooney is missing with his power shots, Gibbons appears much quicker
5Cooney confused, throwing few punches, but Gibbons is not much busier
6Promising round early, Cooney is aggressive and Gibbons trades but both fade
7Boos are heard as the action is scarce, again Gibbons does a little more
8Gibbons throws scattered punches and runs as Cooney chases to no avail
9Cooney's best round, he lands several power shots, Gibbons forehead is cut
10Gibbons still bleeding but peppers Cooney this round, Gerry looks tired
11All Gibbons as he lands blistering combinations, Cooney's left eye swelling
12Both fighters throw flurries, Gibbons still quicker and Cooney has nothing left
13Exhausted, Cooney pursues Gibbons, but Tommy's speed has taken over
14Target practice for Gibbons, who boxes carefully, Cooney can't catch him
15Cooney needs a knockout, but can't muster the strength as Gibbons dances

Tommy Gibbons defeats Gerry Cooney by 15 round UD (10-3, 8-5, 9-3)

...
......John L Sullivan vs Al McCoy

Round
1Sullivan sets a blistering pace throwing bombs, but McCoy takes his best
2Still pressing forward Sullivan is the better as McCoy looks to weather the storm
3A dull round with both men doing little fighting and a lot of wrestling
4McCoy tries to trade, but this is Sullivan's game and John L gets the better of it
5Best round for McCoy as he matches Sullivan toe to toe, but he looks exhausted
6Another spirited round, Sullivan has a slight advantage and McCoy is fading
7Sullivan looks to end it, but McCoy stands in and has John L looking to hold
8McCoy starts fast, but goes down from a Sullivan right, John L can't finish him
9Trying to score the KO, Sullivan is wild and McCoy hold on for dear life
10Not much action this round as Sullivan appears to be wearing down as well
11An uppercut has McCoy down early, but Sullivan can not land another solid blow
12Vicious toe to toe action and McCoy is down again near the end of the stanza
13Sullivan is now complete gassed as well and the fighter lean on each other
14Somehow McCoy finds his second wind and completely dominates the round
15McCoy shot his load in the 14th, Sullivan easily takes the final round, great fight

John L Sullivan defeats Al McCoy by 15 round Ud (12-3, 11-4, 11-3)

...
......Corrie Sanders vs Archie Moore

Round
1Sanders shocks the Old Mongoose dropping Archie twice with wild right hands
2Still unsteady, Moore manages to keep his distance and box effectively
3Sanders strikes again, dropping Moore with a violent 1-2 and he is counted out

Corrie Sanders defeats Archie Moore by 3rd round KO 1:48

...
..........Marvin Hart vs John Henry Lewis

Round
1Both trade freely, but Lewis is like a windmill, easily outpunching Hart
2Lewis slows down and Hart appears to get the better of it, boxing smartly
3Another high action round, edge to Lewis, they are setting a fast pace
4Toe to toe they go at it once again, Lewis closes the round with a flourish
5The pace slows, but both men are still winging punches, Hart's right eye swelling
6Hart breathing hard and he can't keep up in this round, Lewis with the edge
7Lewis is still punching sharply, while Hart's blow lack steam, round to Lewis
8Close round as Lewis finally takes a breather, Hart lands well in spurts
9Harts looks ripe for the taking, but Lewis does not press thing, very little action
10Lewis on the attack, firing away with both hands, but Hart takes all he offers
11Hart cut over the right eye, down from an uppercut, Lewis then pounds him out

John Henry Lewis defeats Marvin Hart by 11th round TKO 2:51

Semi-Final Matchups

Tommy Gibbons vs John L Sullivan
Corrie Sanders vs John Henry Lewis

Moment of the first round was definitely Sanders demolition of Moore. After that 1st knockdown Archie just never recovered.

Cooney just didn't grow up in a tough enough neighborhood.

Congrats to Gibbons.

I think The Sniper has a chance at making the finals. Only 3 rounds under his belt......he should be well rested.

Chilton Cup Semi-Final Results

...
....Tommy Gibbons vs John L Sullivan

Round
1Sullivan caught Gibbons with a wicked right, then pummeled him into submission

John L Sullivan defeats Tommy Gibbons by 1st round TKO 2:33

...
......Corrie Sanders vs John Henry Lewis

Round
1Wild 1st round as both men threw haymakers for 3 minutes, too close to call
2Slow start, but the first punch Sanders landed put Lewis down, where he stayed

Corrie Sanders defeats John Henry Lewis by 2nd round KO 1:08

A shocking pair of results as both ended so suddenly, with Gibbons taking an obscene amount of punishment before it was stopped. We will definitely have a slugfest in the finals!!

Finals Matchup for the Chilton Cup

...
......John L Sullivan vs Corrie Sanders

What kind don't I like

I mix it up, Heineken Light, Sam Adams, Bud Select, Blue Moon and Sea Dog Bluepaw get the most rotation. Sipping a Miller Chill Lime ATM, pretty good actually.

And speaking of celebrating..........We have a Chilton Cup Champion!!

Chilton Cup Finals

The time has come as John L Sullivan and Corrie Sanders make their way to the ring. The Sniper has fought less than 5 rounds total, but the Boston Strongboy is coming off an impressive blitz of arguably the finest pure Boxer in the WTB.

The Crowd is alive and we are ready!!!

...
......John L Sullivan vs Corrie Sanders

Round 1
The fighters circle each other, measuring, feinting, slowly closing the distance, Sanders fires an overhand right the glances off of Sullivan's forehead. Sullivan ducks and looking at the floor uncorks a wild right of his own that lands flush on Sanders jaw and drops him like a sack of lead. Sanders lies flat on his back, staring vacantly into the ring lights as he is counted out without moving.

The Winner by knockout in 1:22 of the 1st round and new.......
Chilton Cup Champion!!!!!

The Boston Strongboy.......John L Sullivan!!!

And with the conclusion of the tournament, the season begins as Sullivan will be the man match in and match out with the target on his back. And with the regular season fights only lasting 3 rounds.....Anything can happen!!

Moment of the Match

The moment of the match, if you could call it that, has to be something we may never see again in WTB as McCoy and Allen fight 3 rounds so devoid of action, that referee Jay Nady could not see fit to give a single round to either man. This match has to be boxings version of a pitchers duel.
