Historical League How To

What i want to do is set up a historical league starting with the beginning of the Seattle Mariners Franchise. I want historical rookies coming in at the appropriate times, but I want the freedom to make my own trades.

Should I use minor leagues, or just use the majors?

If I just use the majors do I get to use a reserve roster?

Any tips would be appreciated. What's the best way to set this up?

You'll want to follow this guide in the manual to set up your historical league: Out of the Park Baseball Manual

If I do a set up which requires full minor league rosters as well as historical rookies, is it possible that the game will create fictional good/star players that IRL never existed?

And another questions that I had: Does OOTP automatically change uniform colors in historical games? Or is that up to the commissioner/player of the league?

I have My History of The White Sox League that I am now in 2074. I started in 1901. I did not have the original players that played for the Sox come in except 1901. I had a player draft since I was changing history by being bad the 1st 10 yrs ok the next 10 and dominant 1923 thru 1954 then sucked again for 25 yrs. While I still went after many former Sox players I had Babe Ruth in 1915, Joe DiMaggio in the 40's.
I used the PCL as the AAA for MLB until 1950 then switched to their modern 2011 affiliates.

Yes if you have no minor leagues you will have a reserve roster.

You would have to change the logo and uniform as needed. I am sure you know about the 1901-2010 uniform set. It is a must have for historical leagues.
If you use full minors you can turn on ghost players and would need to the 1st few seasons as there will not be enough players to fill up past AAA. With ghost players off and more then AAA the game will create misc players, some of which are potential HOFers.

I am aware of the uniform set, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Where should I look?

I got my league set up, but I was very bummed out to see that OOTP doesn't have historical minor league teams. For a league starting in 1977 that just seems odd to me.

Its one thing a few of us want changed but doubtful Markus would do it.
I always just use the 2012 AAA affiliates. The other thing is with a historical league is you wont have enough players to fill up AAA let alone any other level.

Now that I have my league set up I have just one more question. I have the amateur draft turned on. Does that mean theoretically any historical rookie can be drafted by any team? For example, Cal Ripken could've gone to the Giants, or Alex Rodriguez could've gone to the Mets, etc.

Yes. Turn off the draft if you want them to go to their historical team and there is also an option for rookies to be FA so any team can sign them. Rookies will be imported the 1st day of the offseason, whereas the draft is for whichever day you set it to be.

Oh this is gonna be fun. Since I'm redoing the Mariners History from the beginning I think I want to do a draft. Just to see what might happen. Do the Mariners draft Cal Ripken? Do they trade for Dave Winfield? Do they make the playoffs before 95? Thanks for your help, Game.

Your welcome. For my History of The White Sox which follows OOTP historical setup has the White Sox appearing in 1882 vs 1901. I went to 14 consecutive World Series winning 9 of those. Drafted Ty Cobb, Eddie Collins, Tris Speaker, Walter Johnson & Christy Matthewson just to name a few. I am redoing THOTWS from 1901 but have yet to decide how I want to set it up and which DB I want to use.
