Historical minor leaguers

Talked today to someone who'd like to see historical minor leaguers in the game. He mentioned Cecil Fielder as an example: he was drafted by the Royals and signed by them in 1982. He was wondering if we could enable historical minor leaguers, so a guy like Fielder would pop up with the Royals when he was drafted by them, even though in real life they traded him to Toronto, where he made his MLB debut.

Something to add to OOTP 14?

The modded db's do that.

Especially the Gambo one. That is what it does and why it exists and is why peanut butter goes real well with grape jelly on a sandwich.

Depends on what is meant by "historical minor leaguers".

If you mean having minor leagues for the "cop of coffee" major league players, or for major league players before their ML debuts, the trouble there is the nature of the minor leagues, particularly in their earlier years. If you're willing to have greatly simplified and streamlined minor leagues, then something could be cobbled together.

If you mean all the minor league players who never made it to the majors, there is no database of players and statistics which encompasses minor league history. SABR is currently gathering such data—the results of which show up at Baseball Reference—but there is a long way to go. In some cases, due to the sheer number of players who have appeared in the minors, it's not clear if a particular name is the same player or two different fellows with the same name.

What he means is like this Years with Full Minor Leagues Teams so if he loads like 1979 the Real Minor Leagues would load to.

Real minor leagues will mean plenty of clubs with fictional players since there aren't nearly enough real players to fill up the rosters of all the minor league clubs. Prior to the 1960s there is the matter of the much larger number of minor leagues, with a great many clubs that were not affiliated, not to mention the large number of affiliates for some major league clubs. Unlike with major league clubs, there's no comprehensive history of minor league franchises. Lots of relocations, folding, and expanding in the minors.

I think people would be ok with that, as long as at least some of the players were real where information exists.
