Do people still sim out 20+ years and delete league history?
Particularly with fictional leagues. I know this was necessary in OOTP12 and previous versions to get rid of some of the superstar players the inaugural draft spit out, but does it apply in OOTP13?

I don't think you will get a definitive answer on this. Personally, I don't think it was ever necessary. I have a fictional league created in OOTP12 and still running in OOTP13. I did not delete any players or history. It is now in year 25 and most of my records are held by players created after the initial batch. This includes game, season, and career records.

When I play a fictional league, I usually sim out 10-20 years specifically to create some league history. I like to see the records that players are shooting for right away. Plus, it gives me a chance to pick a team that needs a little work to become a contender rather than looking at initial rosters and trying to figure out which teams might be middle of the pack or so.
I wasn't aware of there being a surplus of superstars in the first draft. Is that always the case? |

I think the argument was that the initial draft of players didn't develop properly, leading to a 20 year old rookie playing like his prime until he reaches old baseball age and thus setting ridiculous career records that were unattainable to the next generation who don't hit their prime until ~27.
I've played a lot of fictional and don't completely agree with the theory. I've done it fewer times than not and haven't run into problems. Personally I don't mind a first generation player setting a high record. That way when someone breaks it or comes close to breaking it it becomes a big deal. Babe Ruth set the career homerun record in the 30's. It's only been passed twice with once with a possible *asterisk. Exciting, yea?

You don't have to any more. I think this was sorted out with OOTP12.

I don't do this any more starting with OOTP13. I sim out 25 years just to build history, but then I just take over and go from there. The league records are realistically spread out, with some records being set early in history and some being set just in the past few seasons.

I did for both my solo and online league in 13, but I never tested it and did it out of habit.
I know that it wasn't really sorted out in 12 as I've not been happy with several draft pools and an online league I'm in is dominated by very young players -- they're not just playing at a pro level but they are putting up MVP stats, several of them. |
