When do I click "expand league?"
I don't want to mess up the league history to have the teams exist in the most recent season...I just finished the World Series.
When should I add the teams and realign divisions? |

Oh, and what about when to actually make league rules changes and such? Jan 1st? I want to increase minimum salary each year and also some other changes without it affecting league history or transactions moving forward.

I expanded my league a few days into free agency, and everything seemed fine for me.

I've expanded with good results, immediately after the World Series at the beginning of the off-season. The same for rule changes. I make them the first day of the off-season.

Start of the preseason to not mess with league history. Rules changes Jan 1st.

No. It says when the start of the preseason is in the schedule... somewhere.
How does expanding a league earlier "mess with league history" though?

It lists the expansion teams as having finished 0-0 and in whatever place a .500 record would have finished.

So how does an expansion team participate in the offseason if theyre added during the preseason for things like free agency?

I use different financials in my main league for MLB, *** ABL and my 2 soon to be 4 fictional levels, So players in my main league ask for 20 million a yr when no player makes more then 1.5 million. In other leagues I tend to add them also the 1st day of Free Agency so the soon to be FA's are not protected. Only problem I have seen with this is that the Rule V players that the new teams take may go to a new team. |

Thanks for the info guys.
What I'm noticing now, and this is I believe regardless of when I expand, my expansion teams turn up in the history index page as having a 0-0 record from the years 1871-2012. Is there a way to fix this? So far this seems to be the only glitchy thing I'm noticing... HOWEVER, where else MIGHT some abnormalities turn up? I don't want my expansion teams turning up in the 2012 season history, but I'm also not sure where to check for this one way or another. |

The Chicago White Sox show up in 1882 vs 1900 in OOTP and it shows history to 1882 not 1871. I checked my other league where I do expansion often and as far as their team history it all shows from their 1st yr. Last edited by The Game; 07-29-2012 at 12:50 PM. |

I don't see what you mean. I would have to see a screenshot. To do a screenshot, download Irfanview (it's free) from download.com/Cnet.com and once you have it installed open to the page in OOTP that you are talking about and hit print screen and then open Irfanview and hit ctrl-V and then save it and upload it using manage attachments. I think you may be able to use Windows Paint, but I have never tried.

I restored to a backup already...it's just that screen from the MLB drop down: History/Index and it shows all of the teams including my post-2012 expansion teams as having existed since 1887 or whatever it was with a 0-0 record.
Anyway, I'm still curious as to where else some little weird blips might show up from expanding too early. I'd like to get these teams in before free agency, but also like you and others have mentioned, after free agents have filed so that they aren't protected. I tried 25 guys protected for each team and with players with less than 3 years experience protected as well, this seem too many players were being protected. Thoughts on all this? Thanks for the feedback. |

I tried expanding on January 1st and I don't like it. Expansion teams miss out on free agency, coach signings, etc. Also, you can see the same "issue" I mentioned above about 1871 in this shot:
![]() I almost think it might just literally be telling me that since 1871, this team is 0-0...which technically is correct, but it looks odd?! |
