Financials Again

I ask this from time to time but can't every seem to scare up any interest (or explanations). I just finished signing all my draft picks. Prior to the draft I had $18M Cash plus a $5M draft budget and a couple mil in budget room. Afterward, I still have $18M in cash but now have a budget deficit of almost $16M. It would seem logical that CASH bonuses would utilize cash on hand, but apparently no. Anybody know why the game won't let me use the Cash for anything but sweetening trades?

I believe that cash will be used at the end of the year to lesson any deficit that you have. So the draft picks signings increased your projected deficit but the cash wiill be used to reduce said deficit at the end of the year....I think

So with a $16mil deficit and $18mil cash you should end up with $0 deficit and $2mil cash ast the end of the year, of course not counting anything else that comes up like send cash away in a trade. I think that is what happens, please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

My understanding based on the manual is that Cash is just the starting balance for the season. That number is not going to change no matter what you do. It's effectively a cushion for your budget overall, where Starting Balance (=Cash) + Season Profit/Loss = Current Balance. Your draft bonuses go into the Season Profit/Loss calculation as expenses.

So it is using the cash, just not in the way that you think.

Here is an example of why I find it so frustrating. During negotiations with drafted players, the game tells me how much money I have available. That number seems to be Draft Budget + Budget Surplus + Cash on Hand. However, after I have signed my draftees, all the bonus money is taken from Budget Surplus. That means that even though I have stayed well within the amount of money the game told me I can spend, I now have a huge budget deficit and must balance each trade to insure I don't take on any additional salary, even though my cash on hand amount remains larger than my budget deficit.
