New Ballpark Layout Concept

I'd like to acknowledge CCM01 and Henry whose previous work inspired this project. Many OOTP teams "play" in smaller cities that don't have a stadium that could impersonate a 45,000 seat major league ballpark. So, I made the following. At the top are pictures of buildings for cities and natural landmarks for states and regions. I wanted to lend the feeling that you're someplace specific, not just that you've taken Yankee Stadium and plopped it down in Epping, North Dakota. (No offense meant to anyone in Epping or North Dakota.) I'm also a traditionalist that prefers the behind-home-plate view so I put a generic diamond in the center. Here's how it looks:

At the bottom are blank templates for a grass infield, a dirt path between the mound and home plate, and astroturf with dirt cutouts. You could conceivably put other pictures up top like stadiums, ballplayers, concrete representations of the team nicknames (i.e., real Tigers). I'm sure Crackpott will find a way to get Laura Prepon in there.
Below is what it looks like in action in San Bernardino:

For the record, Glaus grounded to Izturis who threw him out at first while Eckstein scored. In real life, he would have thrown home, but that's a subject for another thread.
There's ample room on the sides to put the team logo or stadium name.
Does this interest anyone? Shall I make more and upload a set? Comments welcome.

Brick,

I like it I would, however, suggest that you spread out the player blocks so they don't touch - for esthetics

I'd love to have the templates at some point

Whew... it's still "in progress". A few other things have cropped up (moving my daughter to Baltimore, moving my websites, renovating BigCityBaseball.com, beta testing commitments, and a recent project at my "real job" that got thrown on my desk out of the blue).

I still have every intention to complete everything - just not as quickly as I had hoped

I’ll take it.

Brick I could use those templates, I’ve been working on making fictional stadium graphics for my fictional leagues and this looks good. If you don’t post them for download, please email them to me.

Very nice. Good idea with the pictures/boxes over the field to give the field (especially fictional or non MLB cities) some personality.

Thanks for all the comments. I have stretched the diamond out horizontally and I think that will keep the players a little further apart. I haven't tried it out on the game yet. I hope to do that in a week, probably sooner. I will also post the three fields with empty frames at the top then as well. A few weeks after that, I'll post a pack of North American cities.

I intended to upload these files to OOTP Planet and Baseball Sim Central. Are there any other places I should post?

Thanks.

Brick - not sure you have to change the layout of the field... for example, using the above as reference...

1. move glaus up a couple of notches
2. move Eckstein and White left and right away from the pitcher
3. Karros and Beltry up and toward the edges a bit
4. Put the outfielders in a straight line even with the current centerfielder
5. move @B and SS up and toward the outside a bit

That should be all that's necessary and would still leave roome for a logo.

I've tried it both ways. Here's how it looks with a bigger diamond in Camden, New Jersey:

Here's how it looks like with the same size diamond with Henry's layout suggestions in Indianapolis:

It's pretty much a matter of personal preference.
I will upload both diamond sizes with all three infields and blank spaces up top. When I do, I will post both on this thread and on a new thread.
When I get the first set of Scenic North American Ballparks, with pictures in it, I will use the larger diamond. If you prefer the smaller diamond, you can always copy that smaller diamond onto the picture with most graphics programs.

I've posted the blank templates to http://www.silverscreentest.com/koala/scenic_blank.zip. I've also announced it in this thread: http://www.400softwarestudios.com/bo...threadid=22314.

I'd like to see what people do with this idea so let me know if you post your own creations to the web. If you don't post them, e-mail them to me.

This is currently on my own web site, but I'd like it somewhere else on a long-term basis. I couldn't upload to Baseball Sim Central and I can't find anything on OOTP Planet about uploads. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
