Nationals Park: Am I nuts or is this wrong?

I just opened a 2012 game because I needed to get the dimensions for Nationals Park for my league

Here are the dimensions in the game from LF Line, LF, LF/CF, CF, RF/CF, RF, RF Line

342, 370, 425, 438, 416, 367, 328

That's wrong. Real wrong.

337 to Left, 377 to Left Center, 402 to CF, 370 to Right Center and 335 to Right

The only reason I noticed it is I knew there was no way DC's CF is 438 to Center.

Now I'm questioning if other Quickstart parks are wrong...

I'm saying you're nuts and the Nationals park, at least, is wrong. At least based on the numbers you cited above.

I'm pretty sure dimensions are purely cosmetic, it's the park factors that matter. You can have 700ft CF or a 100ft tall wall, it will not change the park factors. You will see 700ft HRs though.

Per the ootp 13 manual:
Ballpark dimensions are purely cosmetic! It's the ballpark factors that actually influence the game engine. That is, making a ballpark with a 500-foot center field won't make it any harder to hit home runs to center if the home run factors are still 1.000.

Note: In play-by-play calls, home run distances are based on the distances set here. So, if you set your dimensions to something silly like 700 feet, you will see some 720-foot home runs!

So Cole could hit a 700-ft HR

Yes sounds like something got screwed up and sure OOTP players do want the dimensions to be right. But as far as game play goes TSRock is dead on, ballpark factors determine the outcome not stadium dimensions.

For your league to get proper stats each category of ballpark factors need to average out to 1.000. A park that produces %5 fewer HRs than avg will have a HR factor of .995, %5 more than avg 1.050. Look at it this way. Each park is trying to get it's share of the leagues HRs (or any hits for that matter) with a base park factor of 1.000. Hitters parks will get a larger share of HRs hence their rating will be over 1.000 while a park like San Diego will be way under 1.000.

The part that gets tricky is when you add new stadiums you can't simply make one change and call it good. If you had a ballpark that was league avg HR of 1.000 and was replaced with a hitter friendly park and the rating went up to 1.100 then somewhere in your league .100 would have to be taken away from other parks to preserve the 1.000 league average for all parks.

So in the end a park with a HR factor of 1.100 will produce the same number of HR's no matter if the fence is 330ft or 660ft.
