Talent ratings for real MLB players

How does the game generate talent ratings for real MLB players imported from the LATEST season? Is it based on their real-life potential or is it generated in the same manner as fictitious players? Does importing multiple past seasons have an effect?

For the most part it takes a look at stats and age, they aren't random. Not sure what you are asking about multiple seasons.

Also, just to let you know that the game is not designed to reproduce EXACT replay stats from a previous season as games that are designed to do this are "stats" driven whereas OOTP is ratings driven.

Are the stats based on major and minor league performance? (What kind of talent rating did Mark Prior receive last year?) Also, when importing multiple past seasons does the AI analyse a player's performance each season they are included in the database before generating a talent rating?

Minor league stats have no influence on the player ratings, there is the option to have the entire player's career taken into consideration when importing.
