Switch to OOTP 13? Is it possible? Is it worth it?

I am currently still playing OOTP 11. I have a very large fictional world which I still play and would like to keep playing. My questions are Can I some how import my game into OOTP 13 and pick up where I left off but still have any improvements to the game be implemented into the old game? Also if possible is it worth it to switch? What are some of the main improvements I might enjoy by playing my league on the new version? Any help or input is appreciated. Also every now and again my game crashes but I usually know how to avoid it in OOTP11 if I switch might it make the game less or more stable or no change?

In order to import, you'll need to import it into OOTP12 and then into OOTP13.

If you don't have OOTP12, you can use the demo version instead.

OOTP13 should be more stable as well. I would make the switch personally.

I also have a large fictional world where I added over 5000 nation/city names into the 11 .txt's, I converted to 12 with no problem and now 13 yesterday with no problem.
There are so many improvements from 11 to 12 to 13 it will blow your mind. Some are overwhelming. I do suggest saving all your edited 11 txt's in case something happens and also backup your game on 11 then 12 (if you buy it vs convert using the demo)
12 and so far 13 have been more stable for me then 11 for that league also.
Also don't forget to load any files from 11 onto 13 ala Bobble facial hair etc.

The only thing I'd keep in mind is that OOTP no longer uses the old TXT files for nations, ethnicities, etc. Those have been replaced by the world_default.xml file.

So you could have problems continuing your game in OOTP13, mainly with cities of birth, nations, cities, etc. However, maybe the game accounts for this in the conversion process. So maybe you'll be okay. But I can tell you that you can't create fictional worlds the way you used to do. It's a very different process now, so I'm not sure how continuing existing fictional worlds will work.

I made a lot of edits in the nations and cities.txt files for 11. I used the 12 demo and then converted to 13 with no problems. The import worked perfectly. Even things I didn't think I would be able to take advantage of (WAR) is showing for past seasons.

Definately...you need to improve to OOTP13. IMO its the best one that Markus has ever put out!

I have the same question as the OP.

When I installed OOTP11 on my new Win7 computer, I copied the saved game file for my league into the new computer. I played around a bit, but when I tried to exit the game, it gave me error messages and wouldn't save the game correctly. When I tried to load the game again, it wouldn't load, and then crashed.

I think I had the latest update on the old computer. I updated my new game before trying to load and play.

I also had some ballpark images that were in the old XP documents files I think. Could the game be missing those and causing the errors?

Also, if I buy OOTP13, do I have to actually open the saved game files? or just import them into the demo version of 12?

Import into 12 demo, then import into 13. There is a specific import function on the main screen for the purpose, so I wouldn't try copying the saved game folder into the directory for the newer version. Let the importer create an appropriate file.

Been so busy playing I forgot to post here that the demo/imports worked perfectly!

I'm halfway through my next season already.

Thanks for your help.
