ERA Issue
Hey, sorry if this has already been posted, but I couldn't find anything like it.
I got the 2012 game the day it came out. I've got to say it's pretty good, aside from some bad player ratings in my opinion. But I suppose a lot of that is really opinion. But anyway, I've been playing the major league with the inaugural draft. Francisco Liriano became my number 3 starter -- a job he performed very well in. That is, until he allowed a 3-run homer one game. Strangely his ERA only went up from maybe ~0.90 to around 1.16. These numbers are just guesses. But he only had one start before this happened. In short: There seems to be a problem recording runs. Observe the picture below. 4 Home Runs, but only 3 Earned Runs. I'm not quite sure how you could have an unearned home run... Unless the ball bounces off a player and out of the park...

Can you post a screenshot of his season stats?

I can't remember the specifics of the rule, but a run doesn't necessarily have to be a direct result of the error. That is why you can see someone give up something like 8 runs, and have 0 or 1 be earned. Basically, if the run scores after what would have been the third out (the errored play), runs scored after that point would be unearned.
Perhaps someone could explain it better, but I think that is the basics of the ERA rule. |

Sorry, this slipped by me.
Earned run - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A possible scenario: bases empty, 2 outs, batter reaches on error and the next batter hits a Homerun, both runs would be unearned and the stats line in your screen shot is correct.

If an error occurs that would have contributed to the 3rd out of an inning any run scored after that is unearned. For example the first batter reaches on an error then 2 outs are recorded. Any run scored after that is unearned.
I believe that is the rule. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Oh I see. Interesting. Thanks. Forgive my lack of baseball knowledge then.

That screen shot isn't showing the total number of runs given up, just the number of "earned runs". Others have pointed out the impact an error has on "earned runs". Now if the total runs were less than the number of home runs, then you've got a problem.
