Won't uninstall
I want to uninstall OOTP9 from my computer which has Windows Vista, but I get a window that says it's being uninstalled in an unusual way and I should ask the administrator of the game what to do.
Any help? Thanks. |

have you tried removing it from the start menu OOTP uninstall? or from Control Panel Add or remove programs?

I've tried both ways. No dice. Same message pops up.

It might be helpful if you post the exact message you receive when you try to uninstall. Also, are you logged on as administrator when you try to uninstall? If not, you might want to try doing that and attempting the uninstall again.

Run as administrator is marked when I right click on the OOTP9 icon.
The pop-up window is labelled Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. The message says, "Runtime Error! Program: C:\Windows\Out of the Park Baseball\uninstall.exe "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information." |

Did a little Google research on that error message. This is just stuff I found on the net relating to this error message. Try them at your own risk, or wait for a more official response from OOTP.
Two suggestions ..... 1) Try booting into Safe mode and see if you can uninstall OOTP. 2) This worked for some people who couldn't get certain programs to run at all without that error message ...... Right click on the OOTP icon. Under Properties, Compatability tab, select Run this program in Compatability mode, Windows XP. Make sure Run as Administrator is still checked. Good luck! |

Thanks for your help, Spitfire. No success on compatibility mode. I'll try a safe mode re-boot sometime... Weird problem.

Sorry I couldn't suggest anything that actually worked! I guess one last thought would be trying to simply reinstall OOTP over top of its current location and then attempting the delete right after. It's possible that another program you installed after OOTP modified the Visual C++ runtime library in some way that's causing OOTP to malfunction, so a reinstall might restore the library to a state the game can deal with. What consequences that might have if there IS another program involved, I can't even guess.
I'm still running XP, so not sure this works for Vista ......... As a semi-manual uninstall, you could also try a free program like Revo Uninstaller to get rid of OOTP, though that uses an application's own uninstall procedure and would probably give you the same error message. Revo should be able to continue past that point and would then offer to remove your OOTP files and directories. Then run CCleaner (also free) to get rid of most of the stuff left over in the registry. In the past I've used first Revo and then CCleaner to get rid of programs that had a borked uninstall and which I couldn't get rid of through the usual Windows methods. Never quite sure it gets everything off the hard drive, but better than nothing. Again, that works with XP, so you'd want to make sure those programs work ok with Vista. I've never had or heard of anything bad happening with Ccleaner, as it isn't overly aggresive at cleaning out a registry. Seems a safe program. Ditto for Revo Uninstaller, which I use in its free version. After that, only thing I can think of is manually deleting the OOTP directories to clear the hard drive space, though you'd still want to look at Ccleaner to get at least most of OOTP out of your registry. As always, use these ideas at your own risk. And try the Safe mode boot first. Microsoft also suggests a clean boot to test for possible software conflicts. May as well try all the easiest stuff first. For more information, Google "can't delete program c++ runtime library error". Good luck! |
