Hello Frustrated with the save game
Today, after playing ootp13 all morning I turned off the game OOTP13 and it saved my league. Then I shut down my computer. Then I fired it up before dinner and went to load my game but it was corrupted!
This isn't the first time. I had other corrupted saved games from ootp12. What can I do to retrieve my saved game? Why does OOTP not let you choose the file name so you can save multiple versions. Every other game does this! Please help me. Thanks Andrew |

Make sure you are completely exited from OOTP before you shut down/restart your computer. This might have something to do with it. Also, definitely back up your league. It's under the same menu screen as the save game option. Good luck!

ootp should do rolling backups, so that even after saving the game you still have your previous two saves safely intact (optional of course).
I didn't have the OP' specific problem, but I had a save game that got corrupted as well, and there was no way to just reload the previous save before it got corrupted. Now I play with autosave set to every day, but for all I know that's just autosaving corrupt files. I also use cloud backup even though that's not a perfect solution either. A rolling save option is the only real protection. If there's anyone with clout around here who agrees, please pass the suggestion along. Thanks. |

It already does. Before it saves the game, it moves the previous files to the folder "auto-save" within the game folder. Then, the next time the loading fails, the working files will be restored. In theory, this should prevent any loss of games, and we did not have any issues in this regard for several versions to be honest, so I am not sure what happened to the thread opener.

You can do this via the backup function.

THANK YOU MARCUS!
I moved auto-save into the save file and over wrote the bad files and it worked. I lost a month but thats better than loosing years! YAY!! You should let more people know of this auto-save! Thanks Andrew |
