How do I set my manager to control substitutions during games?

I can't figure out how to set up my league so the AI automatically controls substitutions during my games. The default is having me control it. However, if I don't do anything, my SP will throw all game without relief. Last game, Verlander threw 218 pitches!

I know I can manually change it before each game, but I don't want to have to do that.

Unfortunately, and I don't know why it's never been changed to be more convenient, you must select your manager to control substitutions before every game that you play out. The control settings should be sticky from one game to the next, but they are not.

If you don't play out your games, of course, you yield all game controls to your manager. If you want him to also manage your lineups, depth charts, and pitching rotation, change this setting in Manager Options:

Hard to take a game seriously if it lets a pitcher stay out there that long throwing 218 pitches. To say I am not interested in this game though would be false.

The game did not do this. The human player, who was supposed to manage the team, simply didn't change the pitcher. He's in control, so if he doesn't take out the pitcher, the game doesn't do it for him.

There is an option to allow the computer to manage the game while you watch it or simply quick play it. The issue here is that you have to set that up before each game if you want to watch them. Otherwise, the computer does it automatically for quick play.

Also, you can modify the settings during a game by clicking on the options tab on the upper left hand side of the screen.

You can always change the strategy of how your team is managed by going to team options then select strategy. From there you can change how you want the AI manager to manage the team based on what inning the game is in and the score situation.

On the other hand, if you are using actual teams you also have the option of using the actual manager to run the team during the game. Before each game, after you click "manage" from the daily schedule to get to your lineups, you can change the controls of your team, which is on the left hand side of the screen, from you to the actual manager.

For example, before each game in my dynasty with the 2011 (and beyond) Red Sox, which I have in the dynasty forum, I am managing the team during the game but I have T.Francona as my "3rd base coach" (baserunning) and my bench coach (defense strategy).
