Choosing GM or manager

I remember a thread a while back where Marcus stated that he planned to differentiate if the player chose between playing as the manager or GM of a team for the sake of manager records and stats. Was this implemented? And if so, where can I find it? I never did feel comfortable getting manager of the year when I was playing as a GM or some other guy getting credits for my wins when I was playing as manager.
