Kevin Maas a stud in my alternate history!

Anyone remember this guy? I think I remember he was supposed to be some amazing savior the Yankees but he was a dud. Check out this line for his 1992 season:

I had him on a historical league as well. He was the same way....except he couldn't stay healthy. He missed 60% of the season every year, but the other 40% would make you think he was the second coming of Aaron.

He was supposed to be the next great Yankee power hitter, and he had one season that fueled the hype, but he turned out to be a cement head and an absolute bust. I thoroughly enjoyed watching him disappear into obscirity after the Yankees and media tried to manufacture him as the next pinstripe legend.

I remember that odd batting stance that looked like he was sitting in an invisible chair.

LMAO ... on the comments regarding to Kevin ... thanks for the chuckles ... yeah, I thought he was going to be another big pain to the Red Sox, years to come ... It's amazing to see a wealth of talents hit the Majors and then ... just disappeared ... Mates like Hamilton, keep trying to stay on track, gives us hope ...

i love the alternate historys. i play with a combination of historical and fictional players. and its fun to see which players break out and play better then their real career, and which are the complete opposite. cy young was terrible in my bizzaroverse.

I remember him too. They said it he was a clone of the "Babe" when it came to his hitting.

Me too. We were desperate for heroes in those years. You couldn't blame us for having high expectations after a rookie year in which he had 21 homers and 41 RBI's in only 79 games and came in second for ROY.

Here's an amusing anecdote from Wiki; whether it's true or not is debatable. I certainly do not remember it happening and you would not forget stuff like this:

Quote:
About halfway through the season a group of a dozen or so young ladies began wearing "Maas-tops" to Yankees home games and sitting in the right field stands. Whenever Maas hit a home run to right, the girls would get up, remove their tops and jump up and down until Maas finished circling the bases. However after a few home runs the women were banned from entering Yankee Stadium.
