Is it possible to start a season with random players?

All,

I have tried 5 or 6 times but I cannot seem to find the option where I hold an inagural draft with real random players.

I want to be able to start a game and have random historical players to draft from and each year all the rookies are random historical rookies

I assume this is possible and I am just missing how to do it.

Thx,
jonpfl

Select to create a historical league, select a year of your choice and then check the "Use random players from all eras instead of real rosters" checkbox which is two rows below the year selector.

Then after the league is created, enter league setup -> functions tab. On the left side there is a button "Schedule Fantasy Draft".

I feel good that I am not the only one having this problem

Everytime I start a game thinking I have all the options set, I get to the inagural draft and all the players are random

Thx

What Markus said, though you can also go into the advanced setup during league creation, go into the "options" tab, and click on "hold inaugural draft" from there.

Have you been able to do it though?

One of two things seem to happen for me :
1) The inagural draft doesn't happen but I get random historical players
2) The inagural darft does happen but all the players are fictional

Thx

Try the steps I described above. Works flawlessly.

Yes. I've been running random debut leagues for almost a week now, and I always run an inaugural draft.

My process.

1. Open OOTP.
2. Click on "Construct Historical World".
3. Click on "Use random players from all eras instead of real rosters."
4. Go through the rest of the wizard.
5. Before I start the game, I click on "advanced setup".
6. Click on the Options tab (making sure your MLB is selected as the league you're editing).
7. First option is for "Hold inaugural draft." Click it.

I know this may seem redundant to what's above, but I just want to make sure you're set here. You should also make sure you have both "automatically import historical rookies" and "use random players from all eras" boxes checked in the "historical settings" tab.

If you end up getting option 1 during your own sim (the draft doesn't happen but you get random players), then follow Markus' advice...go into the league options after league creation, and click on "schedule fantasy draft". It will set up a draft for the next day.

I hope that helps.

John, do I have to start a historical league for your setup to work? I have started a 2012 league and checked both 'import historical players' and 'import random players' in the draft setup but in the first draft Ryan Drese was the best player available and only 150 players were in the draft class.

suggestions?

As far as I know, yes. I would guess the way around this is to set up the historical league to begin in 2011, and work from there.

Is there a setting to increase the player pool for the first year? I did this in 2011 and just didn't hold the entry draft (just wanted to have to work with a starting roster of former players). The problem is that there are no FAs and my minors has only about 20 guys (many of whom are 1-star and not ready for the pros). So, when I get 2-3 injuries, I could be screwed

No, this mode is really for leagues without minors. Or turn on ghost players.

Anyway of doubling the amount of players so that it can include the minors? A mixed of historical rookies and newly generated one?

I assume that after a few years worth of drafts, the minors should be stocked, right?

What I did was have the AI fill minors with the minor league option in the league setup wizard (where you select the levels of minors you want), but make sure NOT to select the block majors option.

Then, atleast you have a full minors in the event injuries happen. I'm guessing the FA pool will increase over time as the entry drafts occur. I also increased the amateur draft rounds to 60 for the first year thinking that might get more players in.
