Silly Little Game
Just finished watching Silly Little Game - a documentary about how fantasy baseball started. Initially called Rotisserie League (from the name of the restaurant where the game started), it traces its beginnings with Dan Okrent-the guy who invented it-and other 9 people who played it in the late 70s in New York. Today, fantasy sports is a $2 billion industry, with 25 million people playing it.
I found the documentary very fascinating. A must-see documentary for sports buffs, especially those who enjoy fantasy baseball and other fantasy sports. By the way, here's a link to the NY Times' review of the documentary: The Few Who Founded Fantasy Baseball Last edited by themonk; 10-20-2012 at 12:35 AM. |

It was part of the first run of ESPN's 30 for 30. I thought it was interesting, entertaining and quite funny, to the point I still have it stored on my cable TV hard drive.

Enjoyed the documentary, too. Just learned how to play baseball at the ripe old age of 51 3 years ago, when I downloaded and started to play the free versions of OOTP and Puresim.
From that time up to now, reading and studying all the stuff I can get my hands on about baseball. This documentary helped me a lot in understanding how fantasy sports (especially fantasy baseball) works.

I should check that out.
I don't see a lot of connection between OOTP and fantasy/rotisserie sports. Many times on this forum we have talked about how to increase the market for OOTP yet I find that 99% of people I know who play fantasy sports have zero interest in OOTP or management sims in general. Most look at me like I'm weird when I explain the game. ![]() I'm exactly the opposite. Playing fantasy sports holds zero interest for me but I played every sports board game I could find in the 1970's.

As anyone ever done a fantasy/OOTP thread or dynasty? Like run a solo league and use it for a fantasy league.

I seem to remember(then again, I may be having a drug flashback) somebody a ways back creating a mod for OOTP that was fantasy baseball related. Don't remember if he ever got it completed.
