Questions RE Team Strategy and Coaching

Can someone help verify the following points regarding Team Strategy and Coaching?

1. Team Strategy sliders determine what the AI will do when it is managing games for you. The AI uses these sliders if you do not select to "Play Game against ..." from the top drop down arrow on the current date.

2. When you hire a manager (or when you first start the game and a manager is assigned), his strategic preferences become the team's preferences until you override them manually and your adjustments will stick until your manager is fired and a new manager is hired.

3. The Team Strategy page has drop downs for Game Time and Game Situation, however unless you change these manually, they will all default to your manager's Strategy Preferences.

4. If one wants to set Team Strategy settings oneself, then the team Manager's effect is basically reduced to his Coach Profile.

5. The individual coaches' Teach Hitting-Pitching-Fielding and Handle Rookies-Veterans-Players will impact player development (and perhaps moral, respectively).

If I have those points are correct, then what impact does turning off using the Complete Coaching System have regarding player development? I'm used to playing manager sims where players have practice regimes that improve player attributes. It seems OOTP does not have any settings for player practice? So do you need to use Complete Coaching System to optimize player attributes?

Thanks!

If you turn off the coaching system, the game assumes all players are receiving average coaching for development purposes. There's no direct control over whether a player improves or by how much. Some guys will develop, others won't, and sometimes a scrub player will get a ratings boost that turns him into a useful player. I rather like the player development system, all told, though there are certainly improvements which could be made.

Thanks. Sounds like I should keep using the Coaching system then since the individual coaches will have ratings in their area of specialty that are above Average.

If the OOTP method of handling player development is through the coach's ratings and then some hidden/random stuff, I kinda like that too. In some other sims I found the player training to be tedious and something I wished I could schedule and not have to micro-manage to get good results.
