ultimate rally lineup?

I can't remember what got me thining about this, but here's a question to ponder.

Let's say you're down three runs, bottom of the ninth of game seven of the World Series. You need to score a lot of runs, and you need to do it now.

Who's your ultimate lineup to get it done, assuming you're starting at the top of the order? And if you're a REAL man, or woman, you won't use a DH.

Here's mine, both for active players, and for all time:

Active
1. Ichiro RF
2. Lance Berkman CF
3. Barry Bonds LF
4. Todd Helton 1B
5. Alex Rodriguez SS
6. Chipper Jones 3B (This one may be cheating.)
7. Mike Piazza C
8. Jeff Kent 2B
9. Rick Ankiel P (Or Mike Hampton if Ankiel is in the minors at the time.)

All time
1. Ty Cobb CF
2. Rogers Hornsby 2B
3. Ted Williams LF
4. Babe Ruth RF
5. Lou Gehrig 1B
6. Alex Rodriguez SS
7. Mike Schmidt 3B
8. Mike Piazza C (This pains me. He's more a DH than the old-time catchers were. But we need runs.)
9. Wes Ferrell P

Substitute Joe Morgan for Hornsby on my list. Piazza takes a lot of criticism for being one of the top 3 catchers to ever play the game. Excellent choices all around on your list.

I went back and forth between Joe and Hornsby. I may have overcompensated for my ravenous love of the Reds. That also explains my angst over Piazza. I sooo wanted to go with Bench! But it's strictly a rally lineup, not a best ever question.

I think Piazza is clearly the best hitting player in history to play catcher. But I can't name him to the top three catchers of all time overall. Can you imagine what Cobb, Brock, Mills, Henderson, etc. would do to you with him back there?

Maybe that's not fair, those guys could reap havoc on just about anybody. It's what the Doug Glanvilles and Aaron Boones of the world can still do to Piazza.
