Stepping Up Against the Old Team
I hear broadcasters - especially ex-players like Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper - talk about how players always want to play better when they face teams that traded or cut them.
Have you guys ever seen this? I have a player like this in my league: former Free Radicals backup third baseman Cory Sharp. He joined my team in the inaugural draft, but the starter (Rick Larsen) is a perennial all star and possible HoF candidate when he retires. Poor Cory never quite caught on. His glove was weak, and in three years as a backup he never hit higher than .200. So, I included him in a trade. Now he starts for another team (he got hit by the talent fairy), and in six games against us this year he's hitting around .600 with three doubles and two home runs (more than he hit in three years with us).

Oh, and I should point out that against the rest of the league he hits .240.

It's probably just a small sample size against your team. Then again, maybe I'm wrong, which would be awesome. |

Oh, it's probably a fluke, but it's still cool, and I'd love to know if anyone else has seen it happen.

Yeah definitely I see some ex-Expos who absolutely own me (in a fictional league) when I run into them again.
But I'm pretty sure it's just random - it's nice though to imagine there's a real person getting mad/pumped up. I doubt the game recognizes that a player is playing a team he used to play for, because if it did, it would certainly mention it in the PbP. |
