2010 Detroit Tigers Off Season Thread

Yeah, the season's not really over, but... their season is over. They've got some big money guys with contracts ending this year. I think that Bonderman, Magglio, Laird and Inge are all gone. Damon is iffy. If he'll re-sign for less $ then yes. If not, he's done too. This should free them up to get some more big bats and maybe one more good starter.

I am mainly hoping they find a better answer behind the plate. I know that you can except low offense from that spot but whew - Laird has provided painfully low offense. I can't see that he makes up for that with his defense.

At this point, I think the Tigers have a better shot at second place than the White Sox do.

Victor Martinez count? Even though he may not be catching a whole lot.

Well, on my prediction in the OP I was off a bit, Maggs and Inge were resigned and the others are gone. Maggs, I think, is good for a year, but he's getting old and I, personally, don't trust his health or bat that much. Inge, whom I like, needs to be replaced soon. His defense works for him, but his bat can be so inconsistant. I'd take a lesser fielder with a better bat over Inge any day.

I just learned a new rule today in this article: Tigers face late-game catching conundrum | tigers.com: News

Theoretically, the pitcher would then have to hit for himself when the spot comes up, though the club would almost surely use pinch-hitters in those cases as long as they had somebody on the bench.

Ask Le Grande Orange but to my knowledge since the DH rule came into effect. I didnt know about it either til I was playing an All Star game with both leagues having a DH and then tried to put my DH in at 1B and a bench 3B in at DH it wouldnt let me.

How long has this been a rule?

I think this has always been the rule for a DH. OOTP, unfortunately, does not emulate this. You can not put the DH in the field during a game in OOTP.

Maybe that's what I tried. I don't remember, I guess, since I play out games so rarely.

I can see them blasting the rookie tonight and maybe even Max on Wednesday but there's another guy named Verlander in between those two starts - a sweep is unlikely.

The rookie gave up one through 4 but now has surrendered another in the fifth and has walked the bases loaded (after intentionaly walking Konerko) with two out - hopefully this is where he shows some grit rather than blowing up.
