Frustrating.
2 time World Series Champions. Best pitching staff in the majors.
The league decided offense was down so they lowered the mound and destroyed my pitching staff. ![]() |

Frustrating
Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool too. But now that my 33 yr old reigning Cy Young winner has a 5 ERA at the trade deadline, and my 33 yr old lefty who's won 15 the past 2 years has almost an 8 ERA, I don't think it's so cool anymore.
![]() Slowly but surely we're starting to pull closer, 8 out of the wildcard, but 20 out of the division lead, on 7/26. I wanna phantom DL the one with the 8 ERA, like the Red Sox seem to do with Wakefield every year, but I'm not sure my rookies are ready to pitch in the majors yet and the game won't let me do it anyway. Another frustrating thing is he's the only pitcher on my staff that's a free agent after this season, but since he's pitching so bad I'm not getting any good offers for him, and I'm sure with a 8 ERA he won't be a type A FA like I was counting on. It's been a frustrating season for sure. I keep thinking about firing my pitching coach, Mike Mussina, but he was the pitching coach for the 2 WS wins and I don't think he's the problem. My plan for now is to just stand pat and hope the experience of this team can pull it together and make a late season push for the playoffs. It sure is fun though. ![]() |

Avg up 7 points to .252
HR up to .036/AB from .033 Runs up to 4.77/G from 4.52 So, it worked. Scoring is up. Just sucks that it seems like my #3 and #4 pitchers are the ones giving up all the extra runs. My team ERA is at 4.37 from 3.48 last year and 3.35 the year before that. I think the problem with the offense in the first place is too many of the Mark Reynolds; walk, strikeout or homerun, type hitters artificially lowers the batting average. |

8/15 Now 4.5 out of the Wild Card and 1 game below .500. No one's catching the Yankees at 75-37.
I guess I just needed to be more patient. |

I think I might see the true culprit. What are your age modifiers set to for pitchers? Once anyone in my leagues crests the dreaded 31 their abilities go from Hall of Fame to dogsh*t.
Just an observation, how are your young pitchers doing? |

I'm not really sure where to find that.

I would be interested in knowing more about this also. In my ABF league in 2009 I am 33 over the last 2 yrs my velocity has dropped from 97-99 down to 85-88. I am only somewhat effective, but I am only at June 1st and i have already give more HR (15) then I have given up since 2001. My ERA is 2 runs higher then my worst ever ERA 3.32. I would like to correct this more for my other custom league, where I have a guy with 518 Wins who pitches until he is 59.

go to game setup under player & picture options. tweak aging to less than 1. (I've used .995 and .990 in the past. find what you like) tweak randomness and development speed as you wish. as a reference I think the magic cliff for me is now somewhere in the 34-36 yr range...I can live with that

maybe i will manually redo my abilities after i see how bad i do this yr. ERA's are up league wide not just for me. My #1 SP has an ERA of 3.76 my #3 an ERA of 3.40 who happens to be my best friend who is having a slightly better yr then me. I am a bit concerned over the fact the predictor has me at 61 hr, but I play in a bandbox.

This is exactly why these kinds of settings should be turned off.

Nah, this stuff makes it more fun for me. I'd get bored if I figured out a system to win every season.
