Just my luck..

The funniest thing just happened to me. I spent a few hours creating a new league where I was to be the Chicago Cubs GM. I let the AI run the initial draft and then I was to take over the team and bring the pennant to Chicago. But, alas, this will not happen. The draft was terrible and the team really had bad players at almost every position. I went 64-98 my first season then for the first time ever I got the message "No need to Talk, Move On. You have been fired." The funny thing is that I named my league file CHIManager.lg Now I am managing the Milwaukee Brewers and hope to stick it to the Cubs when I play them....

Just my luck II

The Brewers have a good group of players and I was able to get a few good free agents. The Brewers were leading the division all the way to the final game where they needed the win to get the division. They lost and finished 83-79, this tied the other club for a one game playoff. The other team was the Chicago friggin' Cubs. They beat me to go on to the playoffs...... just my luck.

Sounds like you've created one of those "classic leagues" that will bring hours and hours of fun/frustration. Maybe post pictures of yourself before and after each season so we can track the hair-loss?

I took over the 1900 Washington Senators. I had great pitching, Christy Mathewson, Cy Youn, Noodles Hahn, Jesse Tannehill. But hitting and fielding are another matter all together. Still in last place with 28-45 record.

This is why I check the "Can't be fired" button for three seasons after I take over a team.

I created an entire fictional MLB league around the idea of adding my current home town as a small-market expansion team, to see how long it would take before I guided them to victory. I simmed 20 years to create some league history, and then went ahead with the expansion. Things were on track when we won the division (but not the WS) in our fourth season, but two years later the team finished with a .389 record when injuries, age, and small budgets caught up with us. However, I personally finished the season with a .382 record; there were still ten games left when I received the message that my own expansion team's future plans no longer included me...

I decided small markets aren't all they're cracked up to be and accepted an offer from the Cubs (based on the quality of their minor league pitching prospects at that time; I never seem to be able to draft good pitching prospects on my own). After 17 seasons in Chicago, we have 9 division titles, but still no rings (and not even a single NLCS championship; I should do a "dynasty" write-up, our playoff futility has been epic).

Meanwhile, the small market expansion team I created this whole league around has mostly been terrible ever since, but then four years ago they came out of nowhere to make their first playoff appearance since I was fired, and, of course, they won the World Series. Ouch.

Crap, with that staff, you must have a team full of sub-.200 hitters.

I managed to get tied for last place in the American League with Baltimore, 58-82. Cy Young (20-25, 3.23), Chrisy Mathewson (12-18, 3.08), Jesse Tannehill (10-8, 2.61), Noodles Hahn (12-23, 2.44). Noodles had a 9 game losing streak. Top Hitters: Al Myers (.288, 70 RBIs) Fred Zahner (.257, 45 RBIs) Chief Sockalexis (.295, 65 RBIs.) General Stafford (.331, 17 RBIs after being trade to Senators). Team Batting: .254 which was last in the AL. Team Pitching: Starts 2.93 first in AL, Bullpen 3.33, 7th in AL. Alot of work to do for 1901.

I started a new league a few weeks ago and just got into finally playing it a few days ago. The teams are my Original 8 Endor teams with 4 levels of minors + feeder leagues. i have never had a team do this poorly in my 1st season. Right now I am 35-73. I have 12 games left. Other then myself not 1 other starter has an ERA under 6.00 or more then 3 wins. I have used 17 different starting pitchers. I even used 7 MR with STA of 4 or less. I had a decent draft so i am hoping to turn things around in yr 2. I did check can not be fired mid way through since i want to give myself 3 yrs before getting fired. Offensively my teams is ok, Ozzie Guillen is my leadoff hitter .290 2 hr 9 sb .321 OBP. Baines batting 5th .280 10 hr 5 rbi Jody Gerut and Lance Johnson have been disappointing as my other OF ers and have been between ML & AAA all yr. I traded for a CF who has hit .318 26 hr 88 rbi and my LF did ok at .291 21HR 84 RBI. All 3 OF are terrible on D though. I have used 6 different players at 2B none have hit. Combined they avg .212 3 hr 12 rbi.
