First Year Player Draft player's statistics
I'm trying to understand how much information I can pull from the high school/college player's stats in the amateur draft. For instance, my scout has a high rating on a 1B, but he has the fewest ABs (175) of any college player in the draft. I assumed this probably meant he was an injury-prone player and missed some games. (I wouldn't think he's a bench player cause of how high my scout ranks him, unless he's way off. But why would a scout rank a player so high if he's not a starter to begin with?) Anyway, I was curious, so I unchecked "Hide Injury Rating" as I don't like to see this information, and found that the player is rated as "Durable." So, is there any rhyme or reason for the low ABs?
Also, the highest rated pitcher for me to select is projected as a future Bullpen/Emergency Starter, but his numbers are amazing. The high school player has high strikeouts with a WHIP of 0.69. He has four pitches. He appeared in 15 games, 10 of which were starts. His scouting report says he has Cy Young Award-winning potential... a "can't miss" kid. Of course the scouting report can be wrong, but if his numbers are so good and has 4 pitches, why would he even have 5 games out of the bullpen? Maybe his endurance rating isn't so great, I don't know, I disabled it. However, he pitched 77 innings, which is pretty good for 10 starts. But if his endurance rating is low, why would my scout say he's a Cy Young-caliber pitcher?
I guess I'm trying to understand how deep I can look into the numbers or am I just over-analyzing?
